Today's Trend to Sew: Blouson Dresses

We already talked about blouson tops on Friday,
so you should be on top of what blouson means.
Right? Good job.

Today's Trend to Sew is Blouson Dresses --
To keep you seamstresses thinking about blouson. ;-)

If you have created some of these for your doll or doll clothing store -- email us at nora.demington@gmail.com -- share them with us and our readers!

Not all blouson dresses are labeled as blouson --
so they can sometimes be difficult to find.
Also they may have some skater dress styling, maxi styling, or a high-lo skirting,
making those their trend category.

But blouson dresses are all around us if we know what to look for!
Elastic or drawstring waistlines at our natural waist or hipline pull in a blouson dress
and cause the bodice to poof out.

These examples are from Nordstrom's.

Crocheted blouson dress in two colors by Free People,
one of our fav brands.

Chiffon blouson dresses.

Other examples that were gathered from various sites, Nordstrom, ModCloth, etc.

Today's Trend to Sew: Skater Dresses

The Skater Dress.

If you haven't heard of the skater dress/skirt trend, you are probably
living under a rock or something.

Most doll clothiers probably think of an actual ice skating dress and get images of GOTY Mia skating through their head, but that is not exactly what is going on right now.

The 80s/90s skater dress trend has resurfaced -- an all-figures flattering cut of dress that can be dressed up, down, and sideways for whatever style you want to rock.

The skirt of a skater dress is a full circle, great for twirling around in.
It flares out at the hipline and helps to define an AG's waistline.

We would design any AG skater dress with a hemline right above the knee.
No need to go short.

It can be worn as a tunic over leggings or skinny pants.
It can be accessorized with skinny belts, posh jewelry, cardis,
and looks great with slouchy booties.

Note the variety of materials, necklines, back designs, and sleeve lengths.
Skater dresses sport everything from long sleeves to sleeveless.

Today's Trend to Sew: Blouson Tops

Wikipedia: "A blouson or blouse jacket is a coat that is drawn tight at the waist,
causing it to blouse out and hang over the waistband."

Most of us probably think of a blouse as a type of top,
but blouse is also a verb.

Blouse = "to fall in a fold"

Many dresses, tops, sleeves, etc. are described as blouson, or having a blouson fit -- i.e. parts of the garment poof out somewhere at a gathering.

Today's Trend to Sew is Blouson Tops --
tops featuring blouson waistlines or sleeves, or both!

If you have created a blouson top for your doll or doll clothing store -- email us at nora.demington@gmail.com -- share them with us and our readers!

These beautiful blouson examples are from Nordstrom. :-)
