More 1940s Outfits!

Hello again! We are continuing with our 1940s theme -- and hopefully this serves as a reminder to vote in our Time Warp Photo Contest... hint, hint. Today is the last day for voting. ;-)

Today we have three of the '40s girls showcasing handmade outfits. Linda is wearing a sweater (we think we've shown you before) from Dynamite Threads, and a skirt from Terri's Touch. Molly's fantastic blue wool hooded coat and tam are from AG Seamstress. They are based on the 1986 "Molly's Surprise" illustrations. Check out this link to compare ye olde illustrations with ye new illustrations to see her two different winter "looks"-- http://e.joz3d.net/pages/MollyBooks3.html. Molly's red plaid jumper is from Doll Clothes by Evie. Meanwhile Emily is wearing a green striped tee and shorts set from Terri's Touch.

Here they are looking adorable...

And for today's fun 1940s fashion facts from the "Molly's World" book...

1) Saddle shoes were popular in the 1920s as golf shoes. By the '40s, girls and boys wore them for both work and play. Classic story of sportswear being brought into the everyday fashion world.

2) Before the war, Girl Scout uniforms had long zippers down the front. Since metal was needed for the war effort, the uniform was redesigned with buttons. So we rarely see zippers in 1940s fashion, for uniforms or coats or jackets or dresses -- it was buttons all the way!

3) Notice that some skirts are short and others are longer? Hems were let down as many times as possible for skirts and dresses in order to lengthen their "lifetime" of use. A law was actually passed to limit the amount of fabric that could be used in sleeves and hems. Eventually skirts just got shorter in order to conserve fabric!

4) Not that these shorts are pants... but they'll do for us to work in this factoid: Women started wearing pants at their factory jobs during the war. Soon they became acceptable fashion outside of work, and even glamorous everyday wear. Actresses started wearing high-waisted, wide-legged "sailor" pants in movies and this helped popularize them.

Very Versatile Pants
i.e. LJ Ready for Ruby's

Hola! Well we finished talking about C and M-G for now and we wanted to give you a break from Maple's Pirate Treasure Hunt for a day.

So we have a new video and some photos from it for y'all to see. We are using it as a reminder that Liberty Jane usually releases their Fall Line on Ebay starting around October (usually). And there a lot of other shopkeepers who will be doing the same (some sooner than that, just fyi).

And there are probably more peeps out there doing special lines, I just can't remember them all. Haha. So if you are doing a Fall or Winter Line in your shop, please be sure to comment below!

In the meantime, here are some pics.... Lira is wearing LJ's Malibu Libby Ready for Ruby's outfit from the Spring 2011 collection. Her boots are from the MyAG Western Riding Outfit.

Then she has replaced the silk sheer tank top with a brilliant blue short-sleeve sweater from Dynamite Threads.

And last but not least she has changed to a plaid tee shirt from Chenpanhome/Emmalee Chance's Alpine Lake Designs/Studios. So you can now understand why we called this post "Very Versatile Pants." We love these pants!!! p.s. Her shoes are also from Liberty Jane.

Video with detail shots.....

On other topics, school starts tomorrow. Bummer. But Cecile and Marie-Grace's collection and new AG stuff is supposed to be released this week (some of it 'surprises'). So that is exciting! Now we just need to plant a money tree to pay for all the AG stuff we want.... hmmmm....

Doll Jewelry, Part Five:
Pics of Milk and Fish Necklaces

Ever have too many ideas? And a to-do list that is too long? Yeah, that's us right now. And since we've been gone for many days we feel like we have fallen behind. Le sigh.

We will try and catch-up to ourselves and our ideas with another doll jewelry post today. In Part Four we showed you the beginnings of the milk necklace built from a keychain charm and craft store supplies. Also on that cat-themed keychain was a silver fish skeleton. Today we have pics of Stella and Adanya modeling those necklaces for us with some neat clothing.

If you have missed any of our doll jewelry posts, just select the label "Doll Jewelry" from the lower right sidebar menu. You will see the other necklaces we have made, how we made them, and our supplies.

Today Stella is wearing a green striped top, quilted brown hooded vest, and jeans from Liberty Jane Clothing Limited Editions outfits (Fall 2010). Adanya is modeling a white tee shirt and "destroyed" jean shorts from Liberty Jane, and purple leggings and wristies/legwarmers from Dynamite Threads. Both of the girls' shoes are from AG.

Stay tuned for more posts... we have several things in the works.... and we don't even know which thing will be next... so it will be a surprise for everyone!

Liberty Jane Outfits with
Dynamite Threads Tee

Sup! We are back. This is almost the last of the photos we took in December. We are finally catching up. Aren't you impressed?

Today we have three outfits being modeled (from left to right) by Jocelyn, Adanya, and Rebecca.

Jocelyn is wearing about 90% of Liberty Jane's Oxford Square outfit. It comes with two shirts, blue cords, shoes, necklace, and the gray herringbone coat you see on Adanya. We wanted to show you the outfit without the coat on (the way you see it in most pics). We really like the layered shirt look and the cascading necklaces, plus the color of those pants. They are made of awesome. We ♡ blue.

Adanya is sporting that Liberty Jane Oxford Square coat, with custom-made grey skinny jeans also from LJ and a custom tee shirt from Dynamite Threads. The embroidered logo on the tee shirt is like a pirate logo with a skull and crossed bones. Except the bones are needles and threads. Great, eh? Dynamite Threads made us a whole bunch of custom stuff last summer/early fall. And we have yet to show it all off. But we have shown you a black skirt and purple leggings here and a green and white set here. The Dynamite Threads blog is here; she does custom orders and is great to work with. :-D

Rebecca is modeling the Paris Daydream outfit from Liberty Jane. Pictures don't do this outfit justice. It really pops in person. It included the hat, scarf, tank top, leggings, boots, and a bracelet. The leggings feature those see-through slices that we see on some of the American Eagle clothing we talked about before. It is a popular feature in trendy clothing today. We also like the tunic tank top over leggings look-- also very "in" today. But we have to say that our fav feature was the gauzy material layered over the white material in the top-- it's those types of touches that make LJ clothing look like people clothing. Which is ultimately the goal that people should be going for when making dolly clothes (in our opinion).

Okay, enough of me rambling. On to the pics..... :-D

Winter Project Idea and Lots of Stuff

Hola! Okay so this is a big post... it was going to be even bigger but we decided to only show you 3 dolls at a time to make it easier...

Need a fun activity to do for your dolls this Winter Break? When watched this Liberty Jane Youtube Channel video...

...we thought.... huh, maybe we can do our own iron-on project? So we decided we really don't trust ourselves to print our own iron-ons and have them turn out well... but we thought about craft store iron-ons as a possibility. We ordered five white gathered sleeve tee shirts from the Liberty Jane online store and went to Joann's to check out what they had for us. We found a heart, an owl, doggies, and rhinestones as starters for our experiment. And lucky for us when we ordered a backpack from Etsy seller MediumControl they sent us a small Watson the Cat iron-on which we decided could also go on a tee.

We can't say they are perfect iron-on tees (as this was the first time we tried it)-- but we followed Cinnamon's instructions and we think they came out pretty well. We put the iron on whichever setting recommended by the iron-on itself-- look at zee packaging for instructions.

So we dressed up in three of the tees for this photo-shoot. The owl tee is a bit shiny with the flash, so ignore those shiny spots. To make your life easier, we are going to list what you see, from left to right on each doll in the pictures below...

Stella Grant (MyAG #25), my stepsister, preparing to hang our stockings over the fireplace:
Light purple slouchy hat from Etsy seller StassyDodge (awesome!)
White LJ tee with brown doggie iron-on from Joann's
Purple skirt from LJ outfit (can you figure out which one? heehee)
Cool Christmas stocking we found in some museum store, somewhere once upon a time...
MyAG meet shoes

Ellie Demington (MyAG #21), my sister in pjs, sneaking downstairs at night to steal Santa's cookies:
Gray hooded scarf from Etsy seller SuzyMStudio
White LJ tee with owl iron-on from Joann's
Gray sweatpants from Etsy seller 123MulberryStreet
Fuzzy white slippers and awesome blanket from All Dolled Up Doll Clothing

Nora Demington (me!), getting ready to wrap some prezzies:
Multi-colored hat and scarf set from Etsy seller StassyDodge (also awesome!)
White LJ tee with cat iron-on from Etsy seller MediumControl
Black pleated skirt and purple leggings from Dynamite Threads
Green boots (available at LJ online store)
Ty L'il Ones Brianna doll (an Xmas gift which I found in the airport for my friend Kaya )

Fantastic, no? We highly recommend having some iron-on fun this Winter Break-- perhaps make a trendy white tee from the free LJ pattern or buy a gathered sleeve tee from LJ. You can print out iron-ons on special transfer paper or buy them in craft stores.

Check out the many pictures below...

Next up is a post on the other two iron-on tees!

Stassy Dodge Harry Potter Scarves and More!

Sup! Wow, it's been almost a week since I last posted. Sorry about that. Homework got in the way of blogging fun.

Today we have four dolls showing you the four scarves we bought from Etsy seller StassyDodge that coordinate with the Harry Potter Hogwarts houses. A great way to make a simple costume for Halloween! Ziva is wearing the gold and red of the Gryffindor house; Kit is wearing the blue and bronze of the Ravenclaw house; Ginny is wearing the yellow and black of the Hufflepuff house; and Sun Ji is wearing the green and silver of the Slytherin house.

You can commission these scarves for your own dolls via the Etsy shop and you can also look at Stassy Dodge's blog for more pictures of things available: Designer Clothes by Stassy Dodge.

What else are the girls wearing for us today? Ziva is wearing a grey-mottled tunic top, brown belt, and dark blue leggings handmade by Terrie at All Dolled Up Doll Clothing. Her boots are from Liberty Jane.

Kit is wearing an outfit from Etsy seller 123MulberryStreet which included the striped blue and grey tunic top and denim-tone leggings. Her pink shoes are from AG.

Ginny is modeling an outfit we special-ordered from Dynamite Threads as part of a mix-and-match set. The green and cream peasant blouse and green pleated skirt are part of this creative set. The socks and boots are from Liberty Jane.

And last but not least, Sun Ji is again wearing Liberty Jane duds-- the long-sleeve top from Shinjuku Starlet and one of the custom pairs of grey jeans. Her Halloween-themed sparkly pumpkin-accented sandals are from Etsy seller BetsyStyle.
