I know what you mean...all I could think of watching this is all the Barbie commercials Mattel used to play in the late 80s early 90s when I was watching Saturday morning cartoons. :) Somehow it just doesn't seem to fit American Girl dolls. It's probably a smart business move, though. Now even more little girls will want American Girl dolls for Christmas. :)
Yeah, it did definitely remind us of Barbie commercials. Especially with the "accessories sold separately" line at the end. Haha.
Well it is just a typical toy commercial. A predictable move for Mattel-- a company trying to survive in the poor economy just like every other company.
But if they have to make an AG commercial... maybe they should have made it bit more "special" and different than Barbie commercials.
Here is an idea Mattel (if you read this blog)--- do a commercial of little girls in your stores having the time of their life.
There is no such thing as a Barbie store. The AG store is definitely something special to AG... and a commercial filmed there would make little girls want to go to the stores as well as get a doll for Christmas. Just a thought....
I thought it was lame. If I didn't already love the dolls, the commercial wouldn't make me want to buy one. Plus, I feel like they should have included the Historicals too, they were what the brand was founded on.
OT, but I was wondering how you moderate the comments that are entered in your contests? I'm working on an event on my own blog, and want the comments anonymous, but can't figure out how to do this. Any help would be great! :P
Nina- Do you mean you want to control which comments appear and which ones don't appear?
If that is what you mean, then you need to change the settings on your blog. If you use Blogger-- you go to "Settings" then select "Comments." It will be one of the choices like "Basic," "Publishing," "Formatting," etc. under Settings.
Then you will see a variety of things to change. Down where it says "Comment Moderation" we have ours selected as "Always."
This means blogger sends us an email (to the email address you enter on this comment settings page) every time someone comments and then we decided to publish it or not.
We hope that made sense-- let us know if you have any questions. :)
I don't mind the commercial. Yes, I'd bet they used the same advertising firm that they use for Barbie... or at least the same musicians... but, oh well. It sounds just like the Shine On campaign from before. So to me it's evidence of a total marketing plan.
I know we are into American Girl, but MANY folks that don't live near a store have no clue.
I figure that if this new push with the My AG dolls helps the company, then they will have more money to invest in another historical.

I don't care if they advertise or not.
If the line of business can remain solvent, that's whats mattering here.
