Meet Kidz n Cats Jakob!

Warning: Long Post.

Yep, even though Mike was on his way here before Jakob was - Jakob ended up showing up first - today in fact!

If you have no idea what I am talking about you'll want to check out this post here: http://thedollwardrobe.blogspot.com/2012/02/we-are-super-excited.html

We ordered two Kidz n Cats dolls - Mike and Jakob. They are designed by Sonja Hartmann (German doll designer) and marketed by Heart and Soul and distributed by Madame Alexander here in the USA - or something along those lines. Primarily they are marketed to Europeans. So it is a rather confusing task to find them online for the US or Canadian market because there are like 100 company names associated with the line.

You can buy Kidz n Cats from the Madame Alexander website - but they are also available from individual shops and sellers, like the Toy Shoppe and Doll Market, as well as Ebay sellers and on Amazon. So it is best to shop around online first before buying in order to get the best deal. The prices from place to place vary quite a bit.

I know y'all expected us to look like this when Jakob arrived today:

But we didn't. Us girls were trying to play it cool. ;-)

The girls just hung out casually as Penny cut open his box and then I took various pics.
So it was really just me being a crazy fangirl with a camera.

Jakob. We knew our balloon of excitement would burst - and it has. He is a very nice doll - but we don't think he is really compatible with AGs. His face is a lot smaller and it looks a lot more realistic than the AG girls. And overall he has a much smaller, slimmer build and is not really as tall as them. Here he is with Kenna.

Yeah. Doesn't quite work for us. Maybe we'll get used to it, but initial reaction is no - these boys will be in their own photo shoots.

Here he is in his box, but released from the ties that bind and doing a dance:

Out of his box, sans shoes.
He is a cutie.

He comes with a form to join the Kidz n Cats doll club, and
a little catalog that has a paper doll and a few outfits in it to cut out:

With Kenna again, who is wearing a Sophia's Collection dress from Ebay, and
the leggings and shoes from McKenna's School Outfit:

Jakob's Face

As you can tell he has a lot of facepaint and he's got those long, long eyelashes. Well one set of his eyelashes was already coming off. Quality? Not quite. Either the glue stinks or this "brand-new" doll has had a hard life in his box. Also, his left eye (right while facing him) has a small crack in the corner of it. Yeah. :-(

So we decided we'd just take both sets of eyelashes off of him and store them for now. Here he is without his long lashes, looking slightly shocked. He still has light lashes painted onto his face, as you can see.

His cheeks are totally rosy red. Sure it was cold outside, but once he was inside long enough - he didn't need to look like he was permanently blushing. So Penny said she was going to Magic Eraser some of that color off of his cheeks. She also thought he had a bit of a doll-zombie look to eyes, so she added a bit more brown lashes with acrylic paint to the corners of his eyelids during his "makeover" for more definition and to tone down the whites of his eyes.

He doesn't look 100% different and one could say his still looks feminine, but we think this will do.

Three phases next to each other: 1) Out of box 2) Without eyelashes 3) With a lil extra eyelash paint and less cheek blush.

Jakob's Wig

Dry, stiff, thin, and not easy to manage. We have read that the first edition of the Sonja Hartmann Kidz n Cats had much better wigs before Madame Alexander was involved. This is a pretty bad wig, in our opinion. We'd change it up, but it's almost not worth the effort since Mike and Jakob are pretty much going to be all we get as far as Kidz n Cats, and it's not like we'll be buying them a huge wardrobe given their size difference in comparison to AGs.

And even though the wig quality is bad, the color and shape kind of suit him. We'll just deal with it for now. We can do more photos of his wigs from various sides and angles if you want - just let us know.

Jakob's Body

We haven't stripped him down to his nuddie pants yet - just his undies. But his body has a lot of scuff marks on it already. He is supposed to be brand-new, so we aren't sure what that is about. And he has stray dark marks on one hand. Can't win.

His legs are loose, but he can still manage to stand with some coaxing - kind of an expected issue when you have knee joints. His arms are tighter than Scrooge's purse-strings before his Christmas revelation. And this makes them quite hard to move. Of course, it also means they will hold a pose. If you can manage to get them into a position that doesn't look silly.

Jakob's Clothing

Shoes are too big even with him wearing thick socks. They just fall off his feet, and being loafers there is no way to fix that besides stuffing them with tissue paper. The design of them is nice. Quality is a bit cheapish. And it would be nice if they stayed on his feet.

Jacket is nice. It is lined and is very detailed. Its material is kinda lightweight though. It does fit the AGs. Which is very nice. Jakob's under shirt (tank top), boxers, and shirt are very nice quality items. We didn't have any problem getting his shirts off, but they don't have backs that open. You have to pull them off over his head. The pants have a button closure that is easy to open, not so easy to close. But besides that the quality of the pants is great.

Kenna borrowing Jakob's jacket:

Besides the scarf, hat, and jacket - we don't think that any of his other clothing pieces will really work for the AGs. We'll eventually do some more testing to find out for sure though. :-)

The hat and scarf oozed some sort of oil onto the cardboard interior of the box. Yep. Nice, right? They are fine, don't even feel oily at all. They are just normal knit items. The scarf is in two parts btw. The clothing they were near is fine, and Jakob looks fine - not like extra oily or something. But for some reason the box doesn't look fine and it lines up with where the hat and scarf were inside of it. So we don't have a clue what the knit items are oozing, but we'll keep them in a plastic bag unless they are being used for photo shoots. :-/

Maybe Jakob's wig is bad because the knit hat oozed something onto it while he lived in the box? We'll rinse his hair out a bit to see if that makes a difference.

Hmmm, what else? Not sure what else to say.

After his makeover, we changed him into a Sophia's Collection tee shirt we bought off Ebay. Yeah, it is a girl's shirt, but it works as a boy shirt for us. And then we posed him with Sun Ji and Sabrina to see how their facemolds would look with his.

Sun Ji's shirt is also Sophia's Collection from Ebay, her skirt is from Andrea Jene Threads, and her socks are from Aunt Bees Old Sew N Sew. Sabrina's two shirts are from Sew Urban Designs, as well as her necklace. Her leggings are from Lizziebee Design. And yep, those weird looking-things are Jakob's elbow joints. ;-)

Overall, we like him. He is a nice, cute doll. Not like best-quality doll we have ever seen - but certainly remarkable. We will keep him and use him for photo shoots. But he wasn't really what we wanted 100%. We'd like a boy doll that can hang out with the AGs without looking out of place, and we don't think this is it. He is just scaled too small - like an Elvish princeling, Legolas's younger brother or something. Maybe Jakob and Mike can have their own adventures here though. :-)

Any questions, comments, thoughts?

Feel free to share!

And feel free to comment with specific photo requests.

2 New MyAG Outfits and
Discussion of Rompers

Hola! Bienvenida a viernes! Willkommen bis Freitag! Welcome to Friday!

Today we will start with pictures of two of the new MyAG outfits that have been recently released. Sabrina is sporting a new brown, curly wig and wearing the Sea Breeze outfit which comes with the blue and white romper, the red bucket hat, and some fly loop sandals. We love these shoes! For $28 you would think this outfit would at least come with a bracelet too, but no dice there.

Alice (who has been on vacation for awhile in the south of France) returns to show off the Tennis Skirt outfit which includes the top, skirt, hairband, wristband, tennis racket, sneakers, socks, and tennis ball. It also comes with yellow lycra undies that match the fabric and color of the top, but the skirt bulges out when you put the undies on. So for our picture purposes Alice is going commando. All of these cute bits and bobs will set you back $34.

That's a lot of dough... $62. Though we are happy to have the tiny tennis ball and racket. And both pairs of shoes are great. But essentially you can make both outfits for a lot less money, which is why we are going to discuss the romper in the second half of this post. For now... please enjoy the pics of Sabrina and Alice!

Ah the romper, the onesie for grown-ups... a very popular spring/summer fashion right now for both girls and trendy women.... here is a slideshow of human girl rompers currently for sale from places like Justice, J. Crew and Delia's.....

And here is a slideshow of women's rompers from places like Urban Outfitters and Bloomingdale's....

There is an AG market for these out there. I can tell you that people were really excited about the one Sabrina is wearing. It is a really flattering style and design -- especially the segmented construction and buttons. So here is my helpful advice for seamstresses for today-- study the MyAG romper, study the ones currently for sale (in the mall or online), and try them out yourself. There are many different styles and fabrics you can experiment with. And they also make nice swimsuit cover-ups if you wanted to sell them as a set with a swimsuit.

Etsy seller SuzymStudio has already branched into the world of rompers with her Military version which you can see in the video below...

Sabrina Models Liberty Jane

And here is the last Liberty Jane post for the first four outfits of the Spring 2010 International Collection! What's next? The next four outfits, of course! But we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves...Sabrina wants the limelight today. :)

Sabrina models the "U.K. Holiday" outfit from the "Euro Libby" theme of the International Collection, probably the most popular outfit of the Spring Line. People really went crazy over this puppy. The leggings that look like black denim are very "in" for human fashion right now, so it was neat to see them available for us dolls. :)

So here are the pics of "U.K. Holiday!"

And here is Sabrina's Mix and Match outfit.... the tank top from "Getty Villa Stroll," the skirt from "Harajuku Station," and the leggings, belt and boots from "U.K. Holiday." We kinda made the top and skirt look like a one-piece dress thingy....

As usual, stay tuned for more Liberty Jane posts!
And if you feel like shopping...click here or here!!!

Most importantly, today is the last day to enter our Spring 2010 Doll Giveaway for a chance to choose between Sonali, JLY #21 and Kirsten, so if you haven't entered yet- enter today!

Final Two AGPNY Custom Tees

Eek! It's been almost a week since our last post here! Ack! Where does the time go???

Today we show you Sabrina and Ramona together (I don't think we've ever actually showed them together in a picture before!) modeling the final two custom tees we bought at AGPNY back in January. Sabrina is wearing the "It's Easy Being Green" tee with two birdies and an apple, paired with Liberty Jane jeans. She is also sporting the embroidered beret and clogs from the AG JLY Photographer's Outfit. Meanwhile her sister is dressed in the "Stand Tall" tee shirt with corduroy pants from Etsy seller Doll Closet. Her sneakers are from Ebay- just normal wholesale mass-manufactured sneaks. Ramona's earrings are from the Pretty Party earrings set we purchased at AGPNY.

Feel like shopping? Liberty Jane merchandise can be found HERE, and Doll Closet goodies can be found HERE.

Please enjoy our pictures below of Sabrina and Ramona climbing up a staircase built from Twilight books. Yeah, we are a little weird sometimes. ;)

Lanie's Garden Outfit and Various Souvenirs

The continuing saga of the January 2010 purchases for the dolls of Badger's Wood....

Today Sabrina is modeling Lanie's Garden Outfit for us while posing next to Kit's desk which has been decked out with toys Penny purchased in New York City. Lanie's Garden Outfit consists of a white bucket hat, blue plaid tank top, white Bermuda shorts, a multi-color beaded bracelet, and lime green strappy sandals. Sabrina is also holding up the AGPNY store exclusive backpack in her right hand, so you can see what that looks like with a doll.

What's on the desk??? Well, on the very top of the desk are two vinyl Ugly Doll toys with a yellow Skelanimals puppy. On the main work surface are two Tokidoki Cactus Pups flanking a Skelanimal keychain puppy, and in the corner is a pink Skelanimal bear. Behind the Cactus Pups is the Mini "Meet Kaya" book which, of course, came with our new Mini Kaya doll. Mini Kaya is hanging out with our new flying pig stuffed toy, which is really a finger puppet. Lots and lots of toys were purchased in NYC, if you can't tell-- courtesy of AGPNY, Toys R' Us, and the MoMA gift shop. ;)

Enjoy the pics!

Doll Closet Christmas Skirt

I am a spastic blogging fiend today! Three posts so far! Yikes! I'm almost as spastic as Lanie's squirrel friend. ;)

Next up for our Christmas-y posts is this skirt purchased from Etsy seller Doll Closet (just like the previous dress). However, this time, being a skirt it had to be paired with other items from other sellers. Or else Sabrina would be half-naked....

So what you see below is one of the eared hats from Etsy seller Lavenderlore, a blue tank top from Liberty Jane Clothing, a multi-colored scarf from Liberty Jane Clothing, the Christmas tree skirt from Doll Closet, and brown knee-high lace-up boots from Liberty Jane Clothing. I love, love, love these boots.

It is just the kind of mish-mash outfit that Sabrina loves to model.
Quirky. Just like Sabrina.
Please enjoy the photos!

Liberty Jane Austin Blues

Three slideshows for the price of one!

Okay, the slideshows are already free.... but the main point is that we have three slidehows in this post. Yes, that's a lot of pictures. But we had a difficult time narrowing them down to one slideshow so we then decided to just go completely crazy and show you a whole lot of pics!

What are you looking at below? First you see our custom Sabrina M. Dove in Liberty Jane Clothing's "Austin Blues" Fall 2009 outfit. The boots are from Liberty Jane but they are not the ones that normally come with this outfit. We added the ribbon as a belt, and Sabrina couldn't wear the included blue earrings. But overall it is essentially "Austin Blues." The plaid shirt, the black tank top, and the bright blue jeans are included with this outfit.

Want Liberty Jane Clothing? Click here!
Want to see their Ebay auctions? Click here!

You will also notice that Sabrina has totally different hair in the first and second slideshows than she does in the third.... bizarre! Well, that hair change is made possible by using Blythe wigs. Yes indeedy, as we learned from Liberty Jane Clothing, you can buy a Blythe wig and just slip it on over the doll's existing hair. It's easy! No ripping off an old wig. No glue. No pain. No fuss. No muss.

We got a couple wigs to try out for our Sabrina and each one gives her a different look. You'll see the others in future posts. For now, enjoy the images of this Black and Hot Pink combo!

Want Blythe wigs for your AG too? Click here!

Slideshow Number Two shows you what happens when you mash-up Liberty Jane's "Austin Blues" with their "Picture Day" outfit....Waalaa!.... Pretty cool!

And the Final Slideshow is pieced together for you to see how cool the jeans can look even with just the tank tops. In that last slideshow Sabrina models the duds with her original locks on view. And that toy hanging from her pocket is a Skelanimals spider key chain from Target. It is awesome.

Hope that all of that spastic blather above made sense!
Please enjoy the many many photos below!

Look at that! You managed to look at all the photos and get down to the bottom of this post! Congratulations readers!

Coming up next in The Doll Wardrobe is that Special Feature on Numberonekitty which I am completely late on delivering to you... but it will eventually get here!

Sabrina's New Eyes!

Yes, it's true! Sabrina M. Dove has new dark blue eyes thanks to AG Playthings Member MsTangledWebs! Among many different dolly services, she provides eye swapping customizations at very good prices.

Thank you MsTangledWebs!

So you may remember that we thought Sabrina looked a little bit too much like our Jess doll and we needed a bit more variety in our dolls. Now Sabrina has Kit's color blue eyes instead of her original brown ones. She is one-of-a-kind! Okay, maybe not one-of-a-kind if someone else out there also has a JLY #30 customized to have Kit's eyes.... but there definitely aren't many of her type in the world. ;)

We have two pictures below of Sabrina with her new eyes!

You might have caught on to the fact that Sabrina is wearing Liberty Jane duds. She was meant to be our Liberty Jane Mondays model for this week... if we had managed to actually take those pictures on time and post that on Monday... but we didn't. However that post will eventually happen!

So stay tuned for another post with Sabrina, her new eyes, and some Liberty Jane Clothing for our Mix and Match Game. :D

Today's Extra Post of New Things!- Eared Hats from Lavenderlore!

What did the UPS and the USPS men bring to Badger's Wood today?

The new #40 to replace the old #40!
And new custom hats from Etsy seller Lavenderlore!

You'll see these new custom eared hats paired with outfits in later posts, but we were so excited to receive them today at the same time we got our new #40 that we took some pictures. The new doll appears naked in the pictures and slideshow below so you can tell the #40s apart from each other.

The new doll will be our Sabrina M. Dove. No, her eyes are not perfect- but they are better than the last #40 and we'll accept her with her flaws. For some reason the Jess mold eyes are just not the same size on these dolls. But at least with this Sabrina they are mostly looking in the same direction. ;)

We are seriously considering doing an eye swap for Sabrina, and maybe a wig switcheroo. But we aren't sure what the plan is yet. We'll keep you posted. :)

So what's the story with these new hats?

Penny asked Christine over at Lavenderlore if she could create some eared knit hats for us modern dolls to enhance our cuteness factor. Christine happily accepted this custom commission last week, and POOF!-- the hats are already here!

We got four-- in brown, dark purple, dark green and a panda version-- perfect colors to go with our fall and winter outfits. We like them all so much, but are maybe leaning toward the panda one as our fave.

Which hat is your favorite?

UPDATE: Christine is now offering these hats for everyone else! Click here to see the listing and order one for yourself! You can get any of the four types you see below- panda, purple, green, or brown- or any other color(s) you'd like! How exciting!!!
