Revisiting LinneaAnne
AGFMB Special Feature

Hello again and welcome back for another installment of the American Girl Fans Message Board Member Special Feature! We are returning to member LinneaAnne for a look at some of the clothing she has made for Ruthie. All of the photos you see in this post are the property of LinneaAnne.

Here is a breakdown of what you are seeing in the photos and slideshow below:

1) The blue dress with the very fancy collar was inspired by a dress that Ruthie wears in the movie.
2) The brown dress and coordinating hat was created by LinneaAnne for the AGFMB 2009 sewing swap. LinneaAnne explains: "I love the color (of the hat) with Ruthie's hair and eyes - it just brings out her eyes so well."
3) The pink, green and yellow apron you see below was created in a 1930s style.
4) The green, white and brown dress which you see as a close-up shot was made as a school dress for Ruthie and has a pleated skirt.
5) LinneaAnne also created a slip for Ruthie based on the pattern for Molly's slip.

And last but not least.....
6) The pink dress was adapted from a Bunny Bear pattern, but LinneaAnne omitted the sleeves from the design.

I would say Ruthie's wardrobe is now quite complete!
Awesome job LinneaAnne!!!

Fantastic! Everything is just so beautiful and the pictures are great. Thank you for sharing your creative doll clothing with us LinneaAnne! Join us next week for another look at what AGFMB member Numberonekitty has created for her dolls.

And next time in The Doll Wardrobe you will find out what I, Nora Demington, gathered as my souvenir loot from our Disney World vacation. Yes I got some more toys! Surprise... surprise. And I'll also start posting some more pictures from our vacation in a more organized thematic manner. :)

Outfits of the Week- Etsy Highlights

Ooooo, time for our fun Outfits of the Week highlights and today we'll be showing you some of our favorite items from Etsy sellers. All photos in this post are the property of the listed sellers. We only use them here to showcase their products.

How do we find these items? The best way to search in Etsy for AG-sized doll clothing is to type in "American Girl, doll" in the Handmade search engine thingy. This way you should get mostly doll clothing for the right size doll. ;)

First we have a lovely five-color poncho, hat and purse set
from our favorite crochet goddess Etsy seller Lavenderlore.
Is your doll ready for the chilly fall weather?
Click here to see the listing.

Our second Etsy highlight is this cute fall dress created by
Etsy seller MyOwnLittleWorldToo.
This shop is very popular now and sells things out
faster than you can say woohoo!
Click here to see the listing.

The third highlight is this Work-A-Day cleaning set
from Etsy seller VintiqueDesigns56.
You may remember that our guest reviewer owns
one of these types of sets from this seller. :)
This particular outfit includes the dress, apron, pot holder,
oven mitt, and some tiny doll-sized clothespins.
You also get a dusting cloth, a head-wrap, and a cookie cutter!
A perfect set for Kit this autumn.
Click here to see the listing.

And last but not least, for those of you currently
panicking over the Kirsten archival... please keep in mind
that many talented seamstresses will still be making 1850s
prairie clothing for you long after the Kirsten dolls sell out...

Please visit Etsy seller Terristouch to see this
lovely Kirsten era ensemble for yourself.
It includes the muslin bonnet, ivory and green print dress,
flannel shawl, and apron with fancy stitching near the hemline.
Click here to see this listing.

Come on back to The Doll Wardrobe on Monday when we feature the Liberty Jane Clothing Celebrity Style outfit known as "Best of Both Worlds" and do another edition of the Mix and Match game. :)

p.s. Today is the last day to vote in our "What are your Favorite new JLY dolls?" poll in the right sidebar. The outcome of this poll might just determine a future doll giveaway here at The Doll Wardrobe....(hint hint....)

Outfits of the Week- Etsy Highlights

Hello again everyone! Sorry this post appeared a bit slowly, but today was a bit busy and we wanted to leave the Halloween Costume Giveaway at the top of the page for as long as possible. :)

Since we featured four outfits from Ebay last week, we thought we'd switch it up and feature four outfits from Etsy today. All photos you see below are the property of the sellers listed- we are stealing them in order to showcase them. ;)

First we have a 1914 dress for Rebecca from MyOwnLittleWorldToo.
These sell out quickly, so it could be gone by the time I post this.

And last but not least.... a modern outfit from AM-PM Creations with a floral top and jeans.
Can you tell I seem to have a red and pink theme today?

As reminders, on Monday we will be doing the BIG introduction of our Elinor Dashwood doll and of course don't forget to check out the Halloween Costume Giveaway post from September 12th. It runs until October 12th- so be sure to get your comments in soon. :)

Keepers Dolly Duds Sundress, Linen Jacket and Hat

It seem like its been forever since we showed a new handmade outfit! Of course we did post about the purple Ruthie dress from Ebay seller sophie_nc on June 19th....but that seems like sooo long ago! Back then, when I was a young, naive fifth grader, and not yet the cool, hip sixth grader that I am today. Ok, so grade-levels are really irrelevant when it comes to coolness.... at least that's what Penny keeps saying...

Today, as a wise and mature sixth grader, I write about the new plaid sundress, blue linen jacket and matching hat which we received from Ebay seller keepersdollyduds. It is being modeled by our lovely new friend Rebecca. She has yet to be firmly established as Rebecca Rubin. Penny will probably pick out a new last name when she figures out her new identity. We don't like to be too matchy-matchy to the AG names. But we do like the name Rebecca.

Anyway, where was I? Oh right, so this jacket and hat are dated for the 1930s or early 1940s and were being modeled by Ruthie in the Keepers Dolly Duds auction. So in other words, Rebecca is trying on the 1930s and early 1940s for size. Does she like this time period? Does she look like she should be hanging out with Kit and Ruthie?

As you will see in the plethora of pictures below, the Keepers "duds" are pretty fantastic. The empire-waisted sundress is made of a beautiful plaid fabric colored with blue, red, yellow and white hues. The red trim and bow around the waistline give it an aura of feminine sophistication. The dress goes wonderfully with the jacket and hat, and the best part is the dress could work for a variety of time periods.

The jacket is so well tailored, with delicate lapels, slightly poofy shoulders, and the most beautiful metal buttons. It fits like a glove and Rebecca likes how light-weight it is, while still protecting her fair skin from the sun. The hat is a unique style that I have never seen a doll seamstress attempt to make before. It sits perfectly on the crown of Rebecca's head and sports bows made of the same blue linen fabric on both sides. Penny really loves this set and this blue color.

And last, but not least, you will discover in the photos a new dog which was purchased for Rebecca. Where did we find it? At the grocery store! Bizarre, I know. But it was adorable, and it barks! He/she will be named once we figure out who Rebecca will be. Can't really name him/her Einstein and then put Rebecca into the colonial era...heehee.

So are you ready for another poll? Yes, three polls running simultaneously. Ridiculous? Probably. But I like making them! Our third official poll will ask you which "American" time period you think Rebecca should be placed into. She will still be Jewish, no matter what era she lands in. But obviously her story will be almost 99% different than the AG Rebecca Rubin story. What will her story be? We don't know yet. First we need to determine a time period. So look over to the right in our sidebar under my gorgeous photo and place your vote!

Our next post on handmade doll clothing will focus on a new item from Etsy seller TheDollCloset, being modeled by our-yet-to-be-named 1950s doll. Consider it a teaser into her fun, funky and charming wardrobe! Maybe it will help you decide which name to vote for in our 1950s naming poll on the right. So far, it looks like Virginia is still winning! If that name sticks, she may be nicknamed "Ginny." Or maybe not...we'll have to ask her if she likes that nickname...

So take a gander at the images below and start pondering which time period you think Rebecca (and her canine companion) should be placed into!

Sophie_nc Purple Dress for Ruthie

There is a house full of weary travelers here in Badger's Wood. All we pretty much want to do is nap! Why do vacations have to be so tiring? We really need a relaxing one soon. Our next vacation will probably be to Disney World. Unfortunately that probably will be a lot of walking and not a lot of relaxing... but still, it is the House of Mouse!

Anyway, besides all of my whining and rambling, I am here to tell you about the purple dress we bought off of Ebay from seller Sophie_nc. It was being modeled by Kit in the Ebay auction and could probably work for the 1930s. So we gave it to Ruthie. It is longer than a normal 1930's young girl's dress would be. But we think it still works for Ruthie, and she loves the color purple. So please enjoy the pictures below of her modeling the sophisticated new dress!

During our "vacation" Penny got to go to the American Girl store in New York City. Yes, she bought some stuff there, including 3 dolls (which we will show off to you next week). She also went to Tiffany's, FAO Schwartz, and a variety of restaurants. I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Central Park Zoo. (I will show you some of the neat stuff I saw there next week as well. And maybe even some videos if I can get those to work in Blogger...)

After a few days in the city we traveled to Penny's parents' house. There we ate a lot of food, went shopping, went out to the movies, and took a whole bunch of pictures of Molly in handmade clothing that Penny had collected when she was a girl. So you should be seeing those in upcoming posts as well. About 75% was made by Penny's Mom, and the other 25% was purchased at craft shows back in the olden days. Heehee.

So Monday June 22nd will be Wild Card Monday! Will you see a new handmade outfit? Maybe! Or will you see a new doll? Or something from New York? Or our Molly in an "old" handmade outfit? Check back with us on Monday to find out!

gehrom Grey and Red Sweater and Hat Set

Rebecca is here! Well, not "here" as in here in Badger's Wood... just "here" as in available for crazy collectors like Penny to purchase!

But Penny is going to wait some more time and be patient before ordering her. I hope everyone who wants her can get her and doesn't have to wait! I am all about instant gratification. Don't forget to vote in the poll in the sidebar for your favorite Rebecca item!

For now, I am going to show you another sweater set from Ebay seller gehrom. This set is shown on Ruthie, but it belongs to Kit. I wanted to show it to you on Ruthie though because the last gehrom set was shown on Kit. Yay for diversification of photo shoots!

The red hat does look especially smashing with Ruthie's dark locks. The grey and red sweater is large enough to fit over a blouse or dress and it buttons up the back. The hat is wonderfully made and again the flower is detachable and movable. The first photo shows you the whole outfit with Emily's dark wool skirt. The second shot gives you an up-close look at the hat and the top of the sweater. The third photo was taken with a more powerful flash so you can see the vertical bands in the crochet-work contrasting against the red horizontal bands. It is quite a neat effect! Thank you gehrom for another great set!

Also, I have to say the red and dark grey combination is really striking and seamstresses don't take advantage of it nearly enough. I don't think American Girl has even made a historical dress with these two colors...or have they? Maybe somewhere there in the AG timeline...

Next time in The Doll Wardrobe I'll be talking about a purple dress for Susan purchased from Etsy seller BoltSense. It is quite a unique addition to her growing wardrobe.

Seems like everybody in this house is getting a purple dress nowadays....everyone except for me, of course. Though honestly, I'm not a huge fan of dresses. Yeah, they are pretty. But I'm more of a pajamas and costumes girl myself.... what have I been pining for? The rabbit costume from Gomunk Creations pictured in the "For sale" section! But that is not really the type of thing I can wear to school....or can I? Hmmm....

While I devise a plan for wearing a rabbit costume to school, enjoy our photos below!

Terristouch 1930s Purple Dress for Ruthie

SEVEN DAYS until REBECCA RUBIN! Do you think my countdown will get annoying after a couple more posts? Probably... but let's just pretend it won't get annoying and keep doing it. Heehee.

Our little Ruthie has a penchant for purple dresses, which she discovered after she was able to get her "Meet" dress back from Kit and try it on. Luckily, one of Etsy seller Terristouch's new Ruthie dresses is light purple with tiny yellow flowers dancing all over the fabric. It features a lovely white collar accented by lace and a bow as well as a tie in the back of the dress for a flattering fit. Ruthie was so excited when she saw it come out of the Priority Mail box she couldn't wait to do the photo shoot. Thanks Terri for another great dress!

Now let's see...what else could our Ruthie need for her 1930s wardrobe? She has 2 coats and 8 dresses, as well as the sweater set and skirt from Kit's Meet outfit. (Kit also gave that to her because of the pink-ness. Kit's mother must have picked that outfit out for her....haha.)

So we are missing some non-pink pjs and a robe, an outdoor play outfit, and maybe some non-pink cardigans we could pair up with her dresses. It would be nice to find these types of things handmade. I guess we'll have to continue the 1930s doll clothing search!

"Roll up the score, Navy, Anchors Aweigh!": Up next from Badger's Wood is a snazzy white sailor suit for Susan purchased from Ebay seller jeanebob4. It is our tribute to the WWII troops discussed and honored frequently in Molly's stories.

The outfit also reminded Penny of the sailor costumes from the musical "South Pacific" and especially that silly song "Honey Bun" which Ensign Nellie Forbush sings while dressed as a male sailor. Despite my overwhelming desire to sing it to you now, I'll wait until I write my next post!

For now, enjoy our photos of beautiful Ruthie below!

Terristouch Light Blue Ruthie Dress

So first here are some images of Ruthie's American Girl brand-name outfit: the so-called "Meet" outfit, which Kit initially stole from her upon the arrival of the original Ruthie doll. However, Kit decided she didn't like the dress because it was a little too girlish, lacy, and has definite traces of pink on it. So back to Ruthie it went, and now she has one more summery dress in her closet.

To beef-up Ruthie's warm-weather-wardrobe, in addition to the sleeveless Keepers Ruthie dress previously reviewed, Penny also bought the light blue, light-weight dress for Ruthie from Etsy seller terristouch pictured below. It has graceful lines, features a soft fabric, and sports a cute row of buttons down the front. Just the sort of dress Ruthie can wear when she and Kit visit the famous Cincinnati Zoo in the summertime! Thanks Terri!

Next up from Badger's Wood is a return to Susan Shapiro's wardrobe for a look at a daisy-tastic, flower-rific summer dress from Ebay seller suebesewing! See ya later!

Keepers Dolly Duds Red, White and Blue Ruthie Dress

Ok, so we are a little early for the 4th of July. But how can you write "red, white and blue" in a different order than "red, white and blue"- especially when you are writing about American Girl dolls? It is quite a conundrum, but....

....I guess we can try...this blue, red, and white dress was recently purchased by Penny from the Ebay store of seller keepersdollyduds. If it is possible to be addicted to an Ebay store, she is definitely addicted to Keepers. We may have to have an intervention soon. Heehee.

Truth be told, once the spring and summer warm-weather dresses started being released Penny started hunting them down feverishly in order to fill gaps in specific dolls' wardrobes. For instance, our dear friend Ruthie, who as a wealthy young lady should own a lot of clothing, is sort of lacking a lot of attire choices. So now she has a nice sleeveless dress to wear in the summer while sitting on Kit's front porch and sipping ice tea.

This beautiful blue dress with tiny white polka dots is accented by pleating, red rick-rack trim, a white cut-up layered collar with tiny red buttons, and a removable belt. Also included was the red hair ribbon which Stella managed to tie onto Ruthie's semi-fancy hairdo. (Stella was in charge of hairstyling for this photoshoot.)

Stop by next time for a look at our new Dollies' Dressmaker striped 1940s dress being modeled by Susan Shapiro!

Damsels-in-Dress 1930s Dress, Apron and Oven Mitt

Kit Kittredge is now the proud owner of our first outfit from Ebay seller Damsels-in-Dress!

We've been browsing the Damsels shop casually for awhile now, but were never quite sure what we wanted to get. There are always so many fantastic and creative new things, it can be difficult to choose!

Lately Penny has been concentrating our buying efforts on 1930s and 1940s clothing, with a sprinkle of this and that thrown in for good measure. This Damsels 1930s dress, apron, and oven mitt appeared as if by magic- just the type of thing we were looking for! And perfect for our new Kit- the blue fabric even matches her eyes!

Penny said she knew this was the dress to buy because the main fabric on the dress is very similar to the wallpaper that was once in the dining room of her parents' house. So....wait a minute...huh? I think I need to explain that one a bit more. According to her, the pattern and color of the fabric reminded her of home and fancy holiday dinners with the whole family gathered in the formal dining room. So she definitely wanted that dress. I guess that makes sense, in a weird sort of way.

Stella was the photographer again, so there are a lot of pictures. Below you will see the blue dress, the white apron, and the blue oven mitt that were included with this outfit. The dress features a detachable little bow-tie-esque collar. The apron has some really lovely embroidery work that we show in a close-up, as well as two functional pockets. And the oven mitt is just perfectly adorable and squishy!

Being our first purchase from Damsels-in-Dress, we should comment on the high-quality of the product. This outfit is excellent. No flaws. Perfect proportions. Great detailing. And the fabric choices are just amazing. Everything a doll (and a collector) could ever want! Thank you Jean!

My next post will be a return to Keepers Dolly Duds with a new 1930s Ruthie dress. Ruthie is finally becoming slightly more satisfied with the amount of clothing in her wardrobe. I have to say that she only owns one official American Girl Ruthie outfit, and Kit kind of stole it from her. Bad Kitty, heehee.

gehrom Brown Sweater and Hat Set

Well, I mentioned gehrom as a featured Ebay seller in our earlier post from today and I decided I should show you something that we have purchased from this seller.

If I just saw the name "gehrom," I'd probably think they sell AG-sized robot costumes or something...but in fact they sell knitted items!

Penny found two great knitted sets in their shop that she wanted: a brown sweater-coat and hat, and a grey and red sweater-coat and hat. The hats sort of look like they could work for the 1920s, 30s, and 70s. While Penny was trying to decide which time period they should go to, Kit demanded that they were both hers. That doll can be feisty!

So here is the first set in all of its knitted glory! Extra bonus: the flower on the hat is removable, and hence, movable. Yippee! It's a sweet set. Well-made. Super-warm for those chilly days. And it looks great on our lovely Kit.

Coming soon (tomorrow, maybe)..... two new outfits for the 1940s from the Terristouch Etsy shop! Yay for fantastic doll clothing! Wooohoooo! (Maybe I ate too much sugar today...)
