Doll Clothes by Evie Coral Dress for Cassie

Cassie has a new dress! It is a two-piece dress with a "jumper" or overdress, and a guimpe or blouse that goes underneath it. The main coral and raspberry fabric is very beautiful and it is accented by the tiny-checked fabric on the collar, the edge of the sleeves, and the bottom of the skirt. This is a pretty cool pattern, with a unique type of collar and sleeve design for the jumper. We fell in love with it the instant we saw it listed on Etsy.

Meet Kirsten...and Kirsten???

Are you seeing double??? Sort of!

When Kirsten's archival was announced last year we bought two Kirstens for ourselves (and one for a possible Doll Wardrobe promotional giveaway). Why did we do such a silly thing like buying two of the same doll?!? Well, you know those fancy loopy-braid-things that Kirsten wears on her head? Penny was pretty sure once she took them out she'd never be able to get them back in quite right. She is not very good with braids and especially not fancy loop-braid-things. So we bought one Kirsten to remain Kirsten with her braids permanently in place, and the other Kirsten was bought to get a new name and be allowed to let her braids out. We are a little bizarre...

So there will be pioneer-girl Kirsten Larson... and Ginny Sartorius, Lira's sister. Ginny is short for Virginia, which we were thinking about using for Connie. So we are resurrecting it, but only as Ginny because we prefer Ginny. ;P

So what's going on in our photos today???... Kirsten Larson can be seen on the left side wearing her Meet Outfit duds, and Ginny Sartorius is on the right side also wearing a pioneer dress as a tribute to her previous existence as Kirsten 2.0.

This dress and plaid scarf is fantastic and was purchased from The Dollies' Dressmaker. It is in the same style as Kirsten's Swedish Dirndl, which we commissioned two handmade versions of from Terristouch, and you can see our post about them here.

AGFMB Member Special Feature: Tomi Jane

Have you ever felt like you found a treasure?

When we saw that AG Fans Message Board member Tomi Jane was selling two of her creations it certainly felt like finding treasure! It was so exciting! Tomi Jane has been creating wonderful handmade clothing for her AG dolls and displaying them on the AGFMB left and right. She makes impressive stuff. And when I say impressive, I mean impressive!

So what did we manage to purchase for our dolls? Tomi Jane had created 3 dresses from one pioneer era pattern, one in blues, one in purples, and one in red and brown. She decided to offer up the purple and red and brown dresses for sale on the AGFMB. As you can see from our pictures below, we managed to get the red and brown one. It is amazing!

The dress is created from a pattern Tomi Jane drafted herself, and it has a yoked bodice, growth tucks, and cluny lace at sleeves. The apron features hand feather-stitching in red, which you can see up-close in one of our pictures. The shawl is soft wool, fringed, and hand hemmed. In addition to the dress, apron, and shawl, Tomi Jane was also kind enough to include a crocheted off-white wrap-around vest-shawl. It is close in concept to Addy's "heart-warmer"- a type of shawl that was popular in the mid-1800s.

Needless to say there was a bit of a conflict over who would get to model this one of a kind masterpiece of handmade dolly duds... but Alice won out because she is new here and hasn't had as many chances as Cassie to wear fantastic pioneer-era clothing. So we hope you enjoy our pictures below of Alice, her new duds, our Valentine's Day roses, and Alice's new wool toy "Thor the Sheep." :D

Though she does occasionally sell her handmade items and/or patterns, Tomi Jane is currently attempting to create one version of every pattern she owns for her own AG dolls. So that is quite the task to keep her busy. Good luck with your projects Tomi Jane!!!

Alice's Terristouch Pioneer Dress

When we named Alice as Alice Wilder Baldwin, we thought it would be fun to have her time travel between modern day and the pioneer era: 1860s-70s in the Old West. So she will occasionally join our Cassie as a pioneer girl.

Alice's first pioneer outfit is a blue dress, plaid bonnet, and white apron courtesy of Etsy seller Terristouch. Though we already have similar dresses, it is difficult to resist such a nice blue color and such well-made items. In the pictures below you will see Alice, with and without apron, posing with her new horse, Mad Hatter. Yes, we know we are muddling up our Alice literary references, but this makes it more fun. Now all we need is a little horsey top hat for him to wear. ;)

Outfits of the Week- Ebay Highlights

Terristouch Blue Pioneer Dress

In our continued efforts to show off Rebecca wearing clothing from a variety of time periods, here she is wearing a Kirsten-style blue summer dress which was purchased from Etsy seller Terristouch.

This dress was purchased with our Cassie Conrad Jameson in mind, for the late 1860s time period, and is crafted in a similar style to Kirsten's striped summer dress that was usually pictured with her fishing set and straw hat. Just the perfect dress to run barefoot down to the stream in. Are you thinking that Rebecca would make a good friend for our Cassie? Terristouch Kirsten-Style Birthday Dress for Cassie

Cassie is the sweetest girl. There ain't no girl sweeter, and she certainly deserves a Kirsten Birthday dress of her own that ain't pink. Ain't that the truth! Haha. Yay for bad grammar!

Where was I? Oh yeah, Etsy seller Terristouch was so super nice recently and asked Penny if there was anything she wanted to suggest as possible upcoming creations. Penny has been longing for Kirsten's Birthday dress since it was first released. (Yes, Penny is kind of, well "older.") But the pinkness! Oh the pinkness! It was a barrier Penny could not get past. Terri made this beautiful version- the same exact pattern for dress and apron as AG- just 150% better. (In Penny's opinion.)

The dress is created from a light blue fabric with little blue dots and multi-color flowers. So cute! The sleeves have elastic in them for the right shape and feature a small white bow on each, with an edging of white rickrack- just like the AG version. And the apron is just perfect and can now be used with all sorts of Cassie's dresses (most of which have been acquired from Terri, heehee).

If AG dolls could smile bigger, Cassie certainly would be smiling very big for Terri in the shots below, where you will see the dress with and without the apron. Thank you again Terri!

Marvelous Me will be posting next week on a green 1940s dress purchased from Etsy seller nayasdesigns for our Susan. Then there will be a little hiatus from us in Badger's Wood as we travel to New York to pick up our new Felicity and 1950s dolls. Will there be more than two dolls purchased? Maybe.... but don't tell Derek. He may start to cry a little. Man tears, of course. But still tears.

Dollies' Dressmaker Green Addy Dress

I know you have all been waiting for my grand appearance- and here I am! Tada!

Fantastic and beautiful Nora Demington is modeling another dress that was purchased for Cassie. We already have several dresses in this classic style of Addy's Kite-Flying Dress, but none that are green! We managed to hunt down this Dollies' Dressmaker dress and couldn't resist it.

The floral fabric pattern sort of hides the "pleating" of the bodice, so we took an up-close slightly blurry shot in order to give you an idea of what the fabric and pleats look like. The green and gold coloring certainly gives us ideas of grand Christmas Eve parties out on the Conrad Jameson ranch.

At some point Penny needs to stop buying dresses in this style.....heehee.

Dollies' Dressmaker Purple Plaid Outfit

Ah ha!

Finally we have Cassie herself modeling one of her new cosmopolitan outfits. This purchase from The Dollies' Dressmaker website is also modeled on Addy's retired school dress, just like the previous post!

It is a prime example of the shorter-length skirt that I just discussed in comparison to Keepers designs. When Penny saw this outfit for sale on the DD website, she thought that it was a light blue plaid fabric. It is difficult to tell in the photos, but once we saw it in person it is clearly a purple plaid fabric. It still looks kind of blue even in our photos! I can't win! Oh well. I like the purple quite a bit.

So here we have the same set-up of skirt, jacket and blouse. An added feature of The Dollies' Dressmaker version is a sewn-on cameo brooch on the blouse. And again, it is nice to have a separate blouse that can be used for other outfits.

Keepers Green Addy Outfit

More outfits for Cassie!

While most of the Montana territory gold miners lived in tents, lean-tos, and other not-so-nice forms of shelter, Cassie's father was lucky enough to find a large amount of gold in Alder Gulch and then build a small ranch for his family. We have to remember that most Montana territory "citizens" would not have had as much clothing as Cassie does!

This outfit, being modeled by my twin sister Ellie, is based on Addy's retired school outfit. However, Keepers designs her dresses to be longer than AG so the girl wearing them can be older and look more sophisticated. Other designers, like The Dollies' Dressmaker stick to the AG length which is appropriate for younger girls ages 9-10ish. We like both lengths at "The Doll Wardrobe" and buy both freely!

Penny is putting in her two cents on this one and remarked that when she saw the Ebay auction at the keepersdollyduds shop for this dress she knew she had to have it.

Her favorite things about this outfit: a) the minty green plaid fabric b) the long beautiful skirt c) the black lace decorations d) the sporty jacket that is fully lined and e) the blouse that can be used separately in other outfits. This is certainly the kind of outfit Cassie could wear once she becomes a teacher-in-training. I hope you enjoy the Photobucket slideshow of this Keepers purchase below!

Dollies' Dressmaker Gingham Outfit

Something weird has been happening with Cassie's wardrobe. We have bought her quite a bit of stuff over the last 12 months or so- from pioneer school dresses to work outfits and bonnets and aprons. But we have also purchased her some fancier "city" fashions, such as the Addy-style dresses from November 2008.

2009 has only brought more and more dresses and outfits that ooze "city" and "sophistication." Though we may be tempted to create a new character to own these outfits, or even purchase Addy- my sister Ellie thinks the best way to settle the issue is to expand Cassie's storyline.

So recently Ellie has sent Cassie off school in Nevada City of Alder Gulch. Some of the first schools for white children (non-Native Americans) were opening in the late 1860s in Montana. Cassie's family had gone to Montana to find gold in one of the big "strikes." Her father was successful in finding gold, so he could now afford to dress his family in nicer clothing- particularly for school. In addition, Cassie is planning on becoming a schoolteacher herself so she will need fancier clothing.

Here we have Samantha modeling one of these sophisticated Cassie outfits that Penny purchased from The Dollies' Dressmaker. It is a recently added design to the DD website. Honestly, it looks pretty good on Samantha as well and could almost trick us into thinking it is from the 1900s. But we will stick to the Addy-dating of the late 1860s. The outfit comes with a blouse and a black and white gingham jumper.

Terristouch Blue Civil War Era Dress

And last but not least (for now), another Terristouch dress!

My sister Ellie makes another appearance today but this time in Cassie's place. Cassie is our 1860s girl so she should really be the one modeling this dress, but she was a little tired of the limelight for awhile and took a vacation to another floor of the house.

We really don't see Ellie in enough outfits, so we might as well show her off a little more! Terri used to offer this dress in a green fabric, which we liked but never got around to buying. Then it disappeared- snatched up by other shoppers.

We were almost tempted to ask Terri to possibly make one for us as a custom purchase when this lovely blue version turned up in her Etsy shop like magic! Perfect dress. Wonderful details of the ribbon and buttons. Good fit. Nice full skirt. Just what we wanted!

Terristouch Nightgown and Quilt

Terristouch again? Yes, indeed. If you haven't figured out yet why we keep buying from her- please go visit her Etsy shop. You will be impressed as well.

This is just a basic nightgown made out of really great soft fuzzy flannel material. I couldn't stop petting it when I took it out of the box. It's soooo soft. This style could work well for a lot of different historical periods and even a conservative nightgown for a young modern girl. It's completely versatile. Jess looks so beautiful in it, it's almost as if she is wearing a ball gown!

What else do we have? More photos of the awesome quilt that we also bought from Terristouch and was seen earlier on Cassie's bed. Of course the design is based off the simple approach of the American Girl quilt for Kirsten's bedding. However, I like this one better. Not sure why. Probably the colors AND the fact that Terri made it.

What's next?

Well for some reason Penny cannot stop buying items from Etsy seller Terristouch. Again, some of this buying frenzy is due to the new lead laws discussed previously. But it is also partly because Terri always has fantastic stuff to buy!

Cassie wanted some more aprons and bonnets, so we found this beautiful pioneer-style dress just for her. The blue color is really wonderful and looks great with her big brown eyes and blond hair. The quilt on Cassie's bed also comes from Terristouch (as you can tell from the inclusion of the matching blue fabric). Perhaps I will do a later post featuring this item, because quilts are fabulous!!!

Dollies' Dressmaker Pink Addy Dress

After writing a novel in the last post, I will try to keep my chatting to a minimum! Sorry for the blather!

Here we have Cassie showing off a new purchase from The Dollies' Dressmaker- a pink taffeta dress designed for Addy.

So the dress design dates to the 1860s (it is similar to Addy's Cape Island Dress, Kite-Flying Dress and Flower-Picking Dress)- however whenever I look at it I see something for Molly and/or Emily. I just can't see Addy wearing this because of the fabric. That is why I paired it with the black Mary-Janes. So I guess it isn't really a "historically accurate" combination with those shoes.

Cassie has not quite bonded to the pinkness of this dress, so I think it may be re-gifted to Molly at some point... (cough cough, wink wink). No matter what time period it ends up in, it is still gorgeous!

Muxoriginals Pioneer Dress

Cassandra needed some more dresses for school, so Penny searched our friend Etsy for some possible purchases. We found this lovely dress from Etsy seller muxoriginals. In the pictures below we are using the shoulder wrap as a head-scarf. So innovative, no?

The pattern on the dress fabric is adorable and the burnt-brick color is just beautiful on Cassie. Orange-burgundy color? Reddish-brown color? What color is that? Oh well, who knows...

If you are interested in a similar dress, I believe her store occasionally has this style available in different fabrics!

Dollies Dressmaker Addy Dress

Ok, Samantha has had enough screen time!

We move on to Jess modeling a dress from The Dollies' Dressmaker. It is the same Addy pattern as a dress purchased from Terristouch which you can see below, but we just had to have it. I was a sucker for this blue and tan fabric.

Custom Kirsten-Style Dresses from Terristouch

Penny asked Etsy seller Terristouch if she would be willing to create some custom Kirsten-style dresses for Cassandra. We were looking for a pioneer dress in the style of a retired AG Kirsten Larson outfit, with a laced vest over a blouse and a full skirt. We preferred that it all come as one piece, for ease of use.

Terri created two lovely dresses for us and one apron that matches both. She put a lot of work into both of them and we greatly appreciate her efforts. Cassandra needed a boost for her wardrobe. Terri still has two of the blue dresses available for purchase, but the red and cream dress was one-of-a-kind. Ellie is shown in the blue dress, while Cassie models the red and cream dress.

Dress for Addy, given to Cassie

So Etsy seller agseamstress created this gorgeous dress for the Addy American Girl doll. But Cassie really wanted it so we bought it for her. She doesn't have that many outfits yet, so we are trying to build up her wardrobe. The dress is wonderfully constructed and the white sleeves are separate, so you can wear the dress with or without them. We are looking forward to getting more dresses from agseamstress.
