MyAG Soft As Snow Outfit and Earmuffs Review

Sup, peoples!

So here (finally) is our post with shots of the MyAG Soft as Snow Outfit and Earmuffs on Angelina Sheldon. We specifically chose a dark-skinned doll so you could see that the sweater and leggings are kinda see-through.

The main outfit comes with the sweater, skirt, cropped leggings, and boots. As well as the MyAG charm. Separately you can purchase the coordinating earmuffs.

Main outfit price: $34

Earmuffs: $10

Slightly painful to slap down $44 plus tax for this set.

It is cute and may have some mix and match potential.

We haven't done experiments yet though.

Some pics of these earmuffs seem to imply that they are gigantic.

We unfluffed them -- i.e. pressed the fur down against Angelina's head and they looked a lot less like two giant white Tribbles devouring her head.

Just two tiny Tribbles....

So yes, the sweater is sorta see-through.

If I were AG I would have done a thin layer of white jersey under the bodice of the sweater, just for sanity's sake.

Also, the sweater does close with velcro. fyi.

The sweater is white with sparkly silver thread running through the yarn.

The skirt is fluffy faux white fur.

Skirt is certainly not see-through. Haha.

It is very tight and really only fits in one place on the dolls without struggling. (It is a pull-on piece.) It may be too short for some customers, but the leggings help with that.

We tried the skirt as a shoulder wrap. It didn't look good.

The leggings are a thin white jersey/knit.

Pretty nice, as long as you don't mind them being kinda see-through.

The boots are very awesome. (But we do have an unhealthy obsession with boots.)

Faux fur on the top is very soft and not too bulky.

Light violet color is very pretty for the main structure. Not sure if they will go with anything else as far as outfits. It is a weird color, and we aren't sure why they picked it to go with a white outfit like this. Who knows? 

They are nice, but again, not sure how well they will transition into use with other outfits.

We looked on the Internets to find where AG got this outfit concept, particularly the fur skirt -- which was honestly beyond us.

We found our answer in the more youthful sections of the fashion world.

To us these girls aren't nine-ish. Maybe six or seven-ish.

But maybe we aren't good with that stuff.

Fur skirts conjure up a lot of images in our heads.

Most of which are not high-fashion ones, or involve actual fur (Yuck) for elite designer lines.

In the high-fashion and tween fashion worlds you will find a lot more feather skirts than fur ones.

But of course sewing with feathers or faux fur are both nightmares that most seamstresses will wake up with cold sweats from.

But just in case you wanted more info on this trend, thar ya go.

I guess next we should pull out a box of modern clothing and see what we can put the skirt and sweater with. Might be an interesting challenge for us.

As far as a review of this set....

It is expensive. I seem to say that about every AG thing I buy...

But when we think of non-collectors laying down that kind of dough for these things, we feel people should really think about how much they will use the items in question.

Not to be your Mom or something. ;-)

1) The sweater does have the silver thread running through it -- so it might not be the "everyday" white sweater of your dreams.

2) How often will someone wear a white fur skirt?

3) White leggings are win. But you can find a pair for a lot less than $44.

4) Boots are also good -- but again, not sure how versatile light violet boots are. I guess lavender is the color?.....

5) Earmuffs. If you are dying for earmuffs luckily they come separately. These are cute and useful for winter photo shoots or traveling on cold days. We wouldn't tell you not to buy these/put them on your wishlist. :-)

McKenna's Team Gear Review

Hola! Today Angelina is modeling McKenna's Team Gear set, new from AG.

The set includes the purple jacket, "gold" medal on a tri-color strap, braided bracelet, and 

ballet slippers.

The jacket exterior is a shiny wind-breaker material and is lined with a lighter purple knit fabric.

The sleeves are a darker purple than the center bodice of the jacket.

The detailing is grey.

The back of the jacket is embroidered with McKenna's name in block lettering.

We like this idea.

Of course it means everyone else who wears it is borrowing it from McKenna, but oh well.

Sports team gear is usually personalized.

The front of the jacket is embellished with the "Shooting Star Gymnastics" logo.

Despite the U.S.A. red, white, and blue strap - 

the medal is not an Olympics or National competition medal.

The front of the medal simply says "Gymnastics" and the back says American Girl.

Here you also get a closer shot of the neon braided bracelet.

And here are the purple ballet slippers.

They aren't meant to be real ballet shoes. Instead they are the all-fabric slip-ons you wear before and after your gymnastics performances. 

You don't want to scuff and scratch the mats and equipment with real shoes.

Overall, it is a cute set. Not really worth the high price.

But again, if you collect for McKenna, or have a gymnastics-loving doll, 

then possibly worth the cost.

Fall Flowers Dress and Fashion Boots Review

Hola! Sorry for the lack of AG clothing posts -- got derailed by other assignments.

Today we have Angelina modeling the new Bitty Twin Fall Flowers dress and the new MyAG Fashion Boots. Her belt is from Liberty Jane, and her sunglasses are MyAG.

The dress is A-line and flares out a bit too much -- making it look baby-ish (which it's technically supposed to look baby-ish, haha) -- so we added the belt to pull the waistline in and give it a more sophisticated look. So if you buy the dress thinking it will look exactly like this on your 18" doll -- make sure you add in a belt.

We love the red corduroy of the dress, the structure of the neckline and sleeves, the contrast stitching, and we can live with the floral embroidery appliques. We wish AG would create 18" shirts and dresses with that much attention to detailed, fashionable necklines and sleeves.

The boots are very nicely made, and have a trendy, equestrian look to them. They are lined with white fabric on the inside, but still have black stitching- so I would be careful not to leave them on a doll too long or the thread dye may transfer to the vinyl.

You have to be mindful of dark, black, and red threads, vinyls, and fabrics as they can transfer their dyes and stain your dolls. Not that these boots do that -- they might not-- but still something to keep in mind.

The set also comes with a pink knit beret and tan vinyl boots. The hat fits the 18" girls but Angelina told us it didn't go with her outfit (why would you put a pink hat with a red dress?). The boots do not fit the 18" girls.

McKenna's Performance Set Review

Hola! The first new AG item review requested was for McKenna's Performance Set; one of our Facebook followers was the quickest to comment and asked to see this set.

Angelina Sheldon is modeling the items for us today. The set includes the leotard, hair accessories, hairstyle card, hoop, and ribbon wand.

The leotard is indeed a fluorescent lemon yellow. We really don't mind that, especially since it looks rather good on Angelina. We do mind the velcro. While the fabric is normal leo fabric, the back closes with velcro that catches on the leo very easily.

It is nearly impossible to get this on without catching the fabric on the velcro. Luckily we didn't do too much visible damage, but someone who isn't very careful could put some huge snags in the leo.

The ribbon wand and hoop are pretty cool. A doll can easily hold the wand, and you can probably make her hold the hoop too with some clear elastics and patience. The ribbon stays curly -- it was probably wrapped and heated -- it doesn't have a wire in it or anything.

The hoop opens and becomes smaller for easy storage. Which is nice. A big thin hoop might break easily while stored, so this opening and closing feature avoids that issue.

You get six clear hair elastics and the fancy hair tie. We especially like the fancy hair tie with the curly ribbons that echo the ribbon wand. The bold colors look great against Angelina's dark hair.

But at the end of it all, the set is priced at $28. Basically you have a "Girl of the Year" mark-up going on here. There are no shorts, pants, skirts, or shoes with this set, and only two performance accessories (the hoop and the wand). Not exactly worth the $28 price tag.

For McKenna's Practice Wardrobe you got a leo, shorts, tee, shrug, ankle bandage and hair accessories for $34. They could have at least grouped this set with the Team Gear set and charged the same price of $34, instead of a combined $52.

Very pricey. Probably only worth it if you a) Really like McKenna's stuff b) Really like gymnastics for your dolls or c) Collect for the GOTY like we do.

If you just really, really, really, want a long-sleeve performance leotard -- there are handmade sellers who offer them (Etsy) and most are less than $28. And generally they are not fluorescent lemon yellow. ;-)

Vintique Designs Sets and All Dolled Up Cardi

Hello! Happy Friday everyone! Only two more weeks of March left -- where does the time go? Speaking of time-- tomorrow is the last day to enter our two Feb/March giveaways. We probably sound like a broken record at this point, but we don't want anyone to miss out on entering. :-)

Today we have pictures of Angelina and Kanani modeling sets from Vintique Designs based on Liberty Jane patterns. We mixed and matched the sets and included a cardigan sweater from All Dolled Up Doll Clothes.

So Angelina is wearing a purple tank top and fancy, sparkly black and purple skirt from Vintique based on the LJ Harajuku pattern. The dark grey-black cardigan from All Dolled Up is really awesome and is embellished with flowers at the neckline.

Kanani is modeling a purple cropped grommet jacket, army green tank top, and gold-patterned coordinating skirt -- all three items are based on LJ patterns. The purple cropped jacket was "matched" with Angelina's shirt and skirt, but we wanted to experiment some with a new look. Also, Vintique Designs included the fantastic army green fishnet tights as well. They are so much fun.
