Eye Color Comparisons with Saige

Sup peeps.

This is the eye color comparison post -- perhaps not a thrilling piece, but we thought Saige had Marie-Grace's eye color and she really doesn't.
So we took some pics for comparison porpoises.

You could argue that Saige's eye color is closest to Kit's and #27's.
But our Kit's eyes are very dark, much darker than Saige's.

She is currently buried deep in the doll closet.
So here is a pic for comparison that we have taken before.

DW Top Tip: If you want to see any of these shots larger, simply click on one and you will be brought to a larger slideshow that you can click through.

Kit

Saige

So in a way, Saige has her own eye color.
Much like Caroline.
And Marie-Grace.
So maybe this is a new AG trend.

Saige and Periwinkle.

Saige and Adanya.

Saige and Liv, aka Marie-Grace.

Thanks for visiting us today!

Up next: Tomorrow we begin to tackle Saige's Sweater Outfit and Her Parade Outfit!

Three Modern AG Outfits

We are a bit behind the times with these three outfits, but maybe people still want to see pics. The MyAG line just comes out with too much stuff too fast! We can't keep up.

Ziva is wearing the Western Riding Outfit sans cowboy hat. We have the hat as well-- but we figured we would show it with something else at some point to spice things up. This outfit comes with the dark coral tee shirt, jean skirt, white braided bracelet, and cowboy boots.

The bracelet is cool-- people should makes those to sell on Etsy or something. The skirt is really cute-- key there is a very thin denim -- that is how they avoid making the layers bulky.

Kit is modeling the Sweet Sugar outfit with the spastic Yorkie embroidered on the front of the sweater. ;-) This outfit includes the cream sweater, embroidered jeans, magenta headband, and dark pink shoes.

Overall, a nice outfit. We would recommend seamstresses look into whether they can embroider their own dolly jeans. Might make an interesting selling point. For example, it would be cool if you could make a Chinese dragon going up and around one leg of a pair of skinny jeans. (Obviously you would need an embroidery machine, but I can dream can't I?)

Emily is sporting the Cozy Plaid outfit. This number includes the pink plaid capelet, the pleated skirt, a long-sleeve cream shirt, and the awesome boots. There is A LOT of pink going on with Emily's outfit-- but we liked the style and the boots. And we are trying to encourage AG to stay trendy.

Seamstresses take note-- has anyone drafted a pattern for this type of capelet? We don't know of anybody. Maybe you should and then pitch it to LJ patterns or sell it yourself. Or sell the capelets yourself. This outfit was very popular for two reasons: the capelet and the boots.

Look forward to more awesome pics around the corner here at The Doll Wardrobe!

Stassy Dodge Harry Potter Scarves and More!

Sup! Wow, it's been almost a week since I last posted. Sorry about that. Homework got in the way of blogging fun.

Today we have four dolls showing you the four scarves we bought from Etsy seller StassyDodge that coordinate with the Harry Potter Hogwarts houses. A great way to make a simple costume for Halloween! Ziva is wearing the gold and red of the Gryffindor house; Kit is wearing the blue and bronze of the Ravenclaw house; Ginny is wearing the yellow and black of the Hufflepuff house; and Sun Ji is wearing the green and silver of the Slytherin house.

You can commission these scarves for your own dolls via the Etsy shop and you can also look at Stassy Dodge's blog for more pictures of things available: Designer Clothes by Stassy Dodge.

What else are the girls wearing for us today? Ziva is wearing a grey-mottled tunic top, brown belt, and dark blue leggings handmade by Terrie at All Dolled Up Doll Clothing. Her boots are from Liberty Jane.

Kit is wearing an outfit from Etsy seller 123MulberryStreet which included the striped blue and grey tunic top and denim-tone leggings. Her pink shoes are from AG.

Ginny is modeling an outfit we special-ordered from Dynamite Threads as part of a mix-and-match set. The green and cream peasant blouse and green pleated skirt are part of this creative set. The socks and boots are from Liberty Jane.

And last but not least, Sun Ji is again wearing Liberty Jane duds-- the long-sleeve top from Shinjuku Starlet and one of the custom pairs of grey jeans. Her Halloween-themed sparkly pumpkin-accented sandals are from Etsy seller BetsyStyle.

AGFMB Member Special Feature- Heritage4 Intro

So your first question may be.... what is AGFMB?
American Girl Fans Message Board!

Your second question may be.... who is Heritage4?
A member of the AGF message board and a fantastic seamstress!

Heritage4 is this seamstress's username at AGFMB and at American Girl Playthings Message Board. Talented at photography as well as sewing, Heritage4 is very willing to sew for others. If you'd like to contact her for a commission please message her on either of the boards or email her at heritage863@yahoo.com. As an interesting note, Heritage4 just graduated high school- such impressive achievements already!

So here is the first post in what will hopefully be a long line of AGFMB Member Special Features. As you can see, we will tell you which skilled seamstress and/or crafter we are featuring- one per week- and also explain whether or not she is willing/able to sew/create for others. Not everyone we feature has the ability to take on commissions.

And most importantly, the objects you see in the photos are not for sale.
In addition, all photographs in these posts have been taken by these featured seamstresses/crafters and are their property. We have received special permission to post them here.

Any questions about this new feature? Please feel free to let us know!

To begin with, pictured below are two versions of a "Bluebell Dress" being modeled by Kit. The first two pictures are of the first version. This dress was inspired by a 1940's pattern Heritage4 saw while scanning through old pattern books. She explains that her version "...deviated a lot from the original idea as I added my own touches to it."

The picture below is version 2.0 of the "Bluebell Dress."
(Heehee... 2.0... I'm so funny...)
Heritage4 told us that "it has a different style for the main fabric than the first version has, but uses the exact same pattern."
They are both so pretty!

And the last photo for today's post shows her replica of Samantha's Play Outfit from American Girl. We own the original AG version over here in Badger's Wood, and we think Heritage4's version looks even better!
Just look at all those lovely ruffles on that pinafore!

Thank you Heritage4 for allowing us to share some of
your sewing work and photography!
And thank you to Dollduds/Caroline at AGFMB for this super-wonderful
idea and all of the hard work she is putting in
to make this idea a reality!

To our readers- stay tuned for more of these Special Features, including more dolly duds from Heritage4. This is just the tip of the iceberg people! Yippee!

Next Wednesday
we will highlight some outfits created by AGFMB Member LinneaAnne! And coming up next from my little vinyl fingers, on Friday I will show you our new Ramona J. Dove (fka Ivy) in her school uniform courtesy of Etsy seller SewQT.

Guest Review: Bon Jean Creations

Emily was very excited to be the one chosen to model this dress from ebay seller Bon Jean Creations. This period perfect dress was patterned after a dress made by the dressmaker's own mother! The feed sack fabric is perfectly paired with the ruffles. Emily felt cool and summery all day.

This is the original handmade dress from the 40's that Emily's dress was patterned after. Isn't it cute?

Damsels-in-Dress 1930s Dress, Apron and Oven Mitt

Kit Kittredge is now the proud owner of our first outfit from Ebay seller Damsels-in-Dress!

We've been browsing the Damsels shop casually for awhile now, but were never quite sure what we wanted to get. There are always so many fantastic and creative new things, it can be difficult to choose!

Lately Penny has been concentrating our buying efforts on 1930s and 1940s clothing, with a sprinkle of this and that thrown in for good measure. This Damsels 1930s dress, apron, and oven mitt appeared as if by magic- just the type of thing we were looking for! And perfect for our new Kit- the blue fabric even matches her eyes!

Penny said she knew this was the dress to buy because the main fabric on the dress is very similar to the wallpaper that was once in the dining room of her parents' house. So....wait a minute...huh? I think I need to explain that one a bit more. According to her, the pattern and color of the fabric reminded her of home and fancy holiday dinners with the whole family gathered in the formal dining room. So she definitely wanted that dress. I guess that makes sense, in a weird sort of way.

Stella was the photographer again, so there are a lot of pictures. Below you will see the blue dress, the white apron, and the blue oven mitt that were included with this outfit. The dress features a detachable little bow-tie-esque collar. The apron has some really lovely embroidery work that we show in a close-up, as well as two functional pockets. And the oven mitt is just perfectly adorable and squishy!

Being our first purchase from Damsels-in-Dress, we should comment on the high-quality of the product. This outfit is excellent. No flaws. Perfect proportions. Great detailing. And the fabric choices are just amazing. Everything a doll (and a collector) could ever want! Thank you Jean!

My next post will be a return to Keepers Dolly Duds with a new 1930s Ruthie dress. Ruthie is finally becoming slightly more satisfied with the amount of clothing in her wardrobe. I have to say that she only owns one official American Girl Ruthie outfit, and Kit kind of stole it from her. Bad Kitty, heehee.

gehrom Brown Sweater and Hat Set

Well, I mentioned gehrom as a featured Ebay seller in our earlier post from today and I decided I should show you something that we have purchased from this seller.

If I just saw the name "gehrom," I'd probably think they sell AG-sized robot costumes or something...but in fact they sell knitted items!

Penny found two great knitted sets in their shop that she wanted: a brown sweater-coat and hat, and a grey and red sweater-coat and hat. The hats sort of look like they could work for the 1920s, 30s, and 70s. While Penny was trying to decide which time period they should go to, Kit demanded that they were both hers. That doll can be feisty!

So here is the first set in all of its knitted glory! Extra bonus: the flower on the hat is removable, and hence, movable. Yippee! It's a sweet set. Well-made. Super-warm for those chilly days. And it looks great on our lovely Kit.

Coming soon (tomorrow, maybe)..... two new outfits for the 1940s from the Terristouch Etsy shop! Yay for fantastic doll clothing! Wooohoooo! (Maybe I ate too much sugar today...)

Dollies' Dressmaker Dress from Kit's Surprise

One of the nicest things about The Dollies' Dressmaker website offerings is that you might be able to find high-quality reproductions of retired AG items (such as Felicity's Work Gown) and even creations based on AG book illustrations.

How many times have you read an AG book and looked at the illustrations wondering: "Why didn't AG make this dress? It's gorgeous!" Then you start wondering if you could sew it yourself........reality soon hits when you realize you don't even own a sewing machine. And you give up on your dream.

The Dollies' Dressmaker feels our pain. Cindy Hernandez seems to know that there are those of out there in the world who want these illustrated items but can't sew them ourselves. Which brings us to Kit's new dress- please see the lovely pictures below with Kit sporting some nice pigtails. Illustrated in Kit's Surprise: A Christmas Story, this golden-orange dress is girlish and sporty at the same time, just like our Kit!

Penny stared at it on the website for many many months, pondering whether or not to buy it. Then she realized that if it gets sold-out she will be kicking herself for not getting it. (The order button was then pressed.)

Terristouch Green Kit Dress

The second dress we bought for Kit came from Etsy seller terristouch. It is a similar design to a dress we bought in 2008 that was from terristouch and is yellow. But we liked this one as well because it is such an attractive green color. We added a ribbon across the waist for added contrast and to match the collar, buttons and Kit's "meet" shoes.

It's nice to have another blond in the household. We have a lot of brunettes and redheads, but Cassie was our only blond-haired girl before we bought Kit. Her cute little bob is really unique and one of the reasons Penny wanted to buy her.

We are currently lacking a nightgown for Kit, but most of her wardrobe has been fulfilled. We even have her coat on backorder...so whenever that order is filled she'll be ready for cold weather.

Meanwhile our non-existent Ruthie owns two coats! But they are both a bit too fancy for Kit. Ruthie is lacking most of her wardrobe, so that is one of the new goals for "The Doll Wardrobe": get Ruthie some more clothing! Oh, and find a Ruthie...

Dollies' Dressmaker Kit Outfit

Phew. We are about half-way through the current photos that have been uploaded to Photobucket. Not to say we are half-way through all the outfits we have bought recently, not even close. But at least we are working through the pictures we have ready...

This is what happens when you shop on Ebay and you don't post on your blog for a month and a half.

Ok, I'll stop blithering now. Where was I? Oh, right. Kit has joined us, and we realized we don't have a lot of 1930s outfits from homemade sources. So we picked up two new dresses for Kit.

First we have this Dollies' Dressmaker blue ensemble composed of a dress, a crocheted hat, purse and stuffed Scottie dog toy. I was thinking this was more of a "Ruthie" style outfit. But once Kit put it on, I was convinced it could work for her as well. Especially when she is heading to downtown Cincinnati to do some window-shopping.

You can tell we also recently acquired the Pleasant Company Scenes and Settings books from Ebay. They are retired backdrop books that were created for Felicity, Kirsten, Addy, Samantha and Molly. Behind Kit is the Samantha ice cream shop...1900s not 1930s...but it still looks cool.

Meet Kit and Ruthie!

So there was this $5 shipping code from AG and well, we just had to use it! Best Friends collection ordered!

There seems to be a slight shift in the form of the classic AG face mold, so Penny thought we should start buying all our Wish List classic face mold dolls before the old version is gone. At the top of the Wish List for classic looks were Kit and Ruthie...so voila! They have now joined us in Badger's Wood!

To explain what is happening in our Photobucket slideshow below: First we took pictures of Kit and Ruthie in their original "Meet" outfits. Then we switched their outfits to see if Kit would look good in Ruthie's dress and vice versa. For those of you who have read the AG Kit and Ruthie books, you know that Ruthie is supposed to have brown hair and eyes. The AG doll matches the movie actress instead of the book illustrations.

The AG Ruthie doll was not speaking to us as a real "Ruthie." The grey eyes, though beautiful, just weren't matching our Ruthie clothing.

So at this point, Penny made an executive decision. Ruthie Smithens was given a new name, identity and time period. Kit is now left alone in the 1930s. Will we find a new Ruthie?

Terristouch Blue Kit Dress

So I told you Penny cannot stop buying stuff from Etsy seller Terristouch. The next several posts will prove that to you quite readily.

Here in Badger's Wood we have a plan to eventually get Kit and probably Ruthie for our "little" doll family.

However, have you noticed Kit's clothing line from American Girl? Orange. Pink. Yellow. Lime Green. Baby Blue. Weird color combinations. Big flowers everywhere. Strange, ugly fabric choices. That is more than half of her wardrobe.

Mind you, I did not live in the 1930s and the clothing is probably accurate to the time. But for some reason I cannot warm up to her meet outfit, her scooter outfit, her school outfit, her yellow floral dress or her outside play outfit. Her feed sack dress is about 50% like 50% dislike. And Ruthie's meet dress is just hideous in my opinion. Out of the 16 or so Kit and Ruthie outfits currently available from AG - I would buy/own 5 of them.

But where do you find simple dresses appropriate for Kit's wardrobe? She certainly would not be able to afford all of these fancy Ruthie dresses Penny has bought from Keepers!

Luckily, Terristouch had something to fit the bill. Simple design. Lovely fabric choice. Wonderful details. Perfect lines. And it looks like it came right out of the 1930s. Jess was very pleased she got to model this fantastic dress.

Dollies' Dressmaker Kit Dress and Apron

More from The Dollies' Dressmaker!

I could not stop taking pictures of this outfit. First of all, we have a copper colander from Williams-Sonoma to brag about. This item comes from the Christmas tree ornament set that I talked about in an earlier post (Again these are not toys! Do not try to chew on them! Do not try and cook real food in them!).

Secondly, there are two parts to this new outfit! We have an awesome blue plaid dress being modeling by Jess with a muslin apron over it. I wanted to show this outfit with and without the apron. The dress is really pretty on its own.

Are there too many pictures? Possibly, but Jess just looks too adorable not to include them all!

Nayasdesigns Apple Apron

Well, we might as well continue the Samantha theme and show you the Apple Apron Penny purchased from Etsy seller nayasdesigns. Linnea, the seamstress genius behind nayasdesigns, recently had hand surgery at the beginning of December- so we send her our best wishes for a quick recovery!

Among the many things we have purchased from Linnea, we snatched up one of her lovely aprons- created for Kit and Ruthie for their kitchen canning duties.

Here we have Samantha modeling the apron over a Terristouch yellow dress. She looks like she is ready to wash the dishes I was supposed to wash this morning... but she said "No Way, Jose." I guess I am going to have to do that chore on my own.

A Plethora of Terristouch Items

Well, we've been purchasing items from Etsy seller Terristouch for awhile now and I haven't included nearly enough of them since I started this blog.

First we have Samantha Parkington modeling a yellow dress made for Kit or Ruthie. The pleated front and tiny buttons are just great. The dress ties in the back for a nice fit.

Second we have Stella in a dress created from one of the Addy designs. It goes very well with Samantha's blue hat. My favorite aspect of this dress is the tiny blue floral pattern on the fabric.

Last we have Stella in a gray Victorian dress based on a Samantha design. She is posing with Wooferton. Such a smart use of what looks like a doilie for her collar! The two tones of gray make this dress especially unique and pretty.
