Melody Valerie
The Holly and The Ivy

Yay! We actually created this post before the holidays are over! It's a big accomplishment for us since we are usually six months behind in our posting schedule... but we thought it was important to post this now since these are Christmas-themed items.

Melody Valerie's Christmas Line 2009 is the Holly Coat, which you see modeled on Mary (fka Ruthie), and the Ivy Cape, which I am modeling. Yay me!

As of the moment when I wrote this post,
there were 2 capes and 4 coats left.

The Holly Coat is handcrafted with a red wool exterior, gold cotton-silk lining, and gold-plated buttons. Buttons and button-holes. Sometimes a challenge for doll clothing made from thick fabric, but here they are very easy to use. This coat looks particularly smashing on dark-haired dolls, as you can see with our Mary. Under the coat she is wearing the Melody Valerie SchoolGirl dress which we will be showing you soon in another post. :)

The Ivy Cape is made from a deep green mini-corduroy, with a silver cotton-silk lining. The off-white pearly buttons work with loops to close the cape and again, are very easy to use. I am modeling this cape over the Melody Valerie Wintry Meadows dress which you saw on my sister Ellie earlier this month. My sister and I think, personally, that the cape looks best with long dresses that go to the floor. It really adds something visually to the way the cape drapes.

We have to say this: doll outerwear is not an easy thing to create. The fit has to be just right or it will either look (a) too bulky and your AG will resemble the Stay-Puffed Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters or (b) too snug and you won't actually be able to put on any clothing underneath the outerwear. And then your doll will feel just a bit chilly. Not every seamstress can master that magical in-between zone where the outerwear fits just right, but Melody Valerie certainly has, as you can see in the photos below.

We think that the MVC Christmas 2009 Line is gorgeous and we hope that Melody Valerie Couture continues to craft outerwear in the future. Thank you MVC for these awesome and unique items!

Sewaddicted2 1940s Blue Coat and Hat for Susan

Two more days until Rebecca Rubin arrives at American Girl! Wooohooo!!!!

Now the question becomes, should Penny order her on May 31st or wait until later? She can't decide. She says she should probably wait and keep some sense of a sane budget for this summer.... but then again there is free shipping still available on that day.... ugh, such a dilemma! Of course the real question is- will she be available online that day? Probably not until June 1st...

But Rebecca questions aside, for this post we will introduce you to Susan's blue coat! It is not easy to find coats for all of the time periods we shop for, but luckily this 1940s-era coat popped up in the Ebay store of sewaddicted2! It is soooo beautiful. The fabrics inside and outside are just gorgeous. We should have taken a picture of the blue silky lining, but I didn't think to do that until right now as I am typing this!

The hat is adorable and fits super-well with elastic around the rim. The white pom-pom is the perfect addition to this tam. The fit of the coat, the little blue buttons, the lovely collar and the elegant high waist called out to Penny from the online auction. And it just looks magnificent on Susan in the pictures below. But the bestest-best-best part of the entire thing is the tab on the bottom of the coat that keeps it closed when the wind blows through town! This was a very special and really lucky find!

Coming up in my next post from Badger's Wood is another sweater set from Ebay seller gehrom! This time it is a lovely grey and red combo with hat.

Don't forget to check out Rebecca and her collection on Sunday either in stores or online!!!!! I might even give y'all a pop quiz or a new poll to see if you were paying attention to all the new stuff! Heehee.

meandmyprincessboutique Grey Coat and Scarf

Penny bought this coat months ago and it finally finds its way to the blog! Luckily, if you are interested, you can still buy the same exact coat from Ebay seller meandmyprincessboutique. Most likely it was made in China, but it is quite different and special.

The original ensemble also comes with a newsboy-type hat and pink suede boots. All together it is quite a modern-looking outfit- but we narrowed it down to the coat and the scarf for when Emily needs a fancy winter coat. Double-breasted wool and plaid accessories are timeless. It can still function as a modern outfit anytime though!

For those of you familiar with the AG line for Molly and Emily, you probably know the coat options are pretty slim: a yellow raincoat, a blue jacket for ice skating, and a snowsuit parka. Maybe there is something else available, but I can't think of it. Needless to say we have had to branch out a bit to find things that will work for our 1940s girls!

Did everyone catch our guest reviewer's first post- Monday April 27th? It's written by Jess and it is awesomeness! Such beautiful pictures! Is everyone jealous of those Liberty Jane jeans? I certainly am. (pouting)

In addition, this is our 100th post! Yeeehaaa! 100 posts strong- now we can go into syndication......oh, wait- I think that is TV shows.
The next posting from me, Nora, will be our introduction to the new super-special-surprise custom doll!
See you next time!

Keepers White Coat

Welcome to 2009! Happy New Year Doll Wardrobe readers!

Our first item for the year is this lovely Keepers Dolly Duds white coat and beret designed for the AG doll Ruthie. It looks very classy on my twin sister Ellie. (And no, Ruthie has not yet come home to live with us. There is a plan to get both Kit and Ruthie at the same time....someday.)

Penny won this coat from an Ebay auction- so be sure to check out the Ebay store "keepersdollyduds" if you are interested in more high-quality items like this coat.

This is our second Keepers coat, but this one is unique for the plaid-like texture and the side-button effect. Nearly %90 of all Keepers clothing seems to be one-of-a-kind, so if you see something you really want in her semi-weekly auctions- I recommend getting it. You may not see it again!

Keepers Blue Coat

Finders Keepers! Yes indeed, Penny was able to win two new Keepers Dolly Duds ebay auctions!

So now after the big holiday rush, I have a bit of time to post to this blog...before school starts up again. Ack... let's just not think about school right now.

We begin with this dark blue wool coat and hat with white accents- designed for the AG doll Ruthie. If you are interested in items from this talented seamstress- please check out her ebay store: keepersdollyduds.
