Custom Dolls?

We have been throwing around the idea of
making custom dolls and selling them.

Nothing too drastic as far as customization.
But new dolls. Not pre-owned.
Not needing tender loving care and then fixed up.

Nothing wrong with that type of customization,
but that wouldn't be what we would do.

Sort of like making more Sharmaines (a #26 with a Saige relaxed wig)
and then offering them for sale --
but all types of face molds, skin colors, eye colors, boy and girl dolls, etc.

Please comment below whether you would buy these kinds
of dolls (in the comments section).

It would be super helpful to get y'alls opinions. :-)

This is a great idea! You'll get lots of customers because a lot of people are too scared to customize dolls because they're afraid of ruining them.

Wonderful to get the positive opinions -- keep your thoughts coming!

I think this is great! I have been thinking of customizing dolls myself (a brown eyed #61!) but I am kind of squeamish on the whole eye part so this would be perfect.

I love this idea, I would definitely buy a custom doll :)

I have been needing a custom doll. I have been trying to create the female line of my family and out of five generations I have dolls for four of them, but there is no doll to represent my mother who had pale skin, blue eyes, and short curly dark hair. I'll keep an eye on what happens here.

I would maybe you can sell "parts" to such as wigs eyes bodies ect. (That sounded really weird) but many people have a doll that they want to rewig using a wig from AG but not want a whole new doll.

I would! I love custom dolls but am not often interested in doing the work that is needed for customizing.

That would be a cool idea. How much would you charge, and would you take custom orders? Would you do basic wig swapping only, or more involved customization such as eye swapping and painting?

As others have said, I think this is a great idea, especially for those who would like a custom doll but are too nervous to try customizing on their own. ;)

At this point in time, new AG dolls are not in my budget, but if they were, I'd definitely be interested. :)

Sounds awesome! I've always wanted to have a custom doll, or to try and attempt to make one myself, but it's hard finding the doll I want to customize.
I'd totally love it if you guys did custom dolls, but as N above said, do you know how much it would cost? And would you be willing to do dolls that resembling a real-life person?

I would buy a custom, considering I was scared out of my mind simply tightening one of my doll's limbs for the first time. I am not quite sure how customizing would go for me ;)

We are interested, but what would the price point be?

I would love this! Your custom dolls are so beautiful, so I think people would be willing to buy them! Maybe sometimes you could even use a custom for a giveaway...

We may sell parts at some point. We may even do custom orders/requests from people as well. We may do makeup and freckle painting when we get more adept at that.

For now we are just thinking about wig swapping and customization. So the type of relaxing of the wig, or turning it on the heads of dolls that we have been doing all along.

Eyeswapping isn't always necessary if you have the right wig and the right dolls. So we probably won't start with eyeswapping as an activity for us.

Price would be slightly more than the normal brand-new doll price -- so probably like $120-30 plus shipping costs to the customer.

Anymore thoughts or opinions??? Keep 'em coming!!!

That price sounds reasonable for the time, effort, and expense involved, and I would love a custom doll, but at this point I can't really afford it (but like I said, for customs that is really a great deal!). I love the idea though, and when I'm ready for a custom doll, I would totally love to buy from you all, since I "know" you guys. ;)

I think this would be awesome! American girl doesn't make any dolls that closely resemble me. Because I'm blonde, a lot of people think that all blondes are the same. But I have waist length straight blonde hair, that is a little darker than most blondes. I also have gray-green or "sea green" eyes, not blue or brown like ag makes. I have large eyes and full lips, although that doesn't really matter. What bother me the most is that AG has no very pale skin tones! If you could somehow lighten the dolls skin, that would be the selling factor for me. Sorry for the long comment ;)

Would you possibly ever do custom boy dolls from popular tv shows, movies, etc? Shows such as...Doctor Who? ;-) I'm in want of a custom 11th Doctor...

The pricing is perfect, by the way! Some custom dolls I've seen are over $300 and that's waaay too pricey for my wallet. :-)

I would totally buy customs or even just (re-wigged dolls) from you guys!

I've been thinking about doing this for some time too......not sure if I will carry it out though.

I would definitely be interested. I have decided not to try doing customizing on my own. I've done a little and just didn't enjoy it. However, I have some combinations in mind that I'd love to have, and I'm curious to see what you come up with.
