Eye Color Comparisons with Saige

Sup peeps.

This is the eye color comparison post -- perhaps not a thrilling piece, but we thought Saige had Marie-Grace's eye color and she really doesn't.
So we took some pics for comparison porpoises.

You could argue that Saige's eye color is closest to Kit's and #27's.
But our Kit's eyes are very dark, much darker than Saige's.

She is currently buried deep in the doll closet.
So here is a pic for comparison that we have taken before.

DW Top Tip: If you want to see any of these shots larger, simply click on one and you will be brought to a larger slideshow that you can click through.

Kit

Saige

So in a way, Saige has her own eye color.
Much like Caroline.
And Marie-Grace.
So maybe this is a new AG trend.

Saige and Periwinkle.

Saige and Adanya.

Saige and Liv, aka Marie-Grace.

Saige's Hair

So today we have a post about Saige's hair.

Not really an intellectual topic, haha.

We just wanted to show you how her hair was put together upon arrival.
And then take it out of the twisty thing.
And restyle it.
And we took pictures for you.

So it comes in a hairnet.
And this is what it looks like when you take it out of the hairnet and lay it across her shoulder.

DW Top Tip: If you want to see any of these shots larger, simply click on one and you will be brought to a larger slideshow that you can click through.

The hair is split into two sections.
One section is twisted very tightly, and the other isn't.

So this is what the back looks like and you can see how the two sections are put together.

Here are the two twists apart.

The fact that one section was twisted more tightly means that the curls on that side are tighter.
And the hair lays slightly higher.

And the curls on the other side are more loose.

We undid the hairdo and attempted to brush it.

Then took small sections and finger curled them with lots of water misting, brushing and patience.

As you can see the curls on the right are still more loose than those on the left.
We'll have to work harder on that to make it look better.

Her hair is very fly-away-ish.
But the dry winter weather doesn't help with that.

But it can be managed with the help of the water mister.

It does take well to finger-curling.

We thought her hair looked a little bit boring just with just the curls, so we added a floral accent headband from That's Lolli on Etsy. That is their royal blue color.

They offer these headbands in a full rainbow of colors for you to pick from.

Here is their purple one as an example: http://www.etsy.com/listing/107490590/purple-doll-headband?

Meet Saige!

Hola peeps!

Here is our "Meet Saige" post with some review points in it.
WARNING: Lots of pics in the post.

The next two weeks of doll posts we'll dedicate to Saige items.
______________

Like Periwinkle, we bought Saige in DC and shipped her to ourselves.

Some shots while she is still in her box.

DW Top Tip: If you want to see any of these shots larger, simply click on one and you will be brought to a larger slideshow that you can click through.

Her ring is taped to the inside of her box.

Saige out of the box.

In her hairnet.

Out of her hairnet.

A cute hairstyle.
But we aren't as gaga over it as most people seem to be.

But if you combined Brave's Merida with Hunger Games' Katniss...
this is what you'd have.

Boot shots.
Perfect design and color.

Ring shots.
All plastic -- but it looks good on.

Dress detail.
Belt is like a woven tapestry.
It is a part of the dress and not removable.
Unless, you know, you cut it out.... Don't do that.

Back of the dress.

She comes with pierced ears and one set of metal earrings in her ears.

Playing with the lighting so you can see the design of the earring.
They are silver cactus flowers.

Our Saige has two different color turquoise eyes.
Yep.
Normally this would annoy us.
But we are okay with it.
This is the doll we liked the best in the store. :-)

She has some dust in her left eye; we'll have to clean that out. ;-)

____________

Overall, a very good rating from us.

Beautiful doll.
Lovely hair color.
We look forward to using her as a model.

A lot of people think she is too close to Nicki.
But we don't own Nicki, so that is fine with us.

We do have #33, but Saige is different from her in our opinion.

We are glad to have a blue-eyed red-haired girl that has the red hair of Felicity.
And we hope that AG will see how popular this hair color is and use it in some of their MyAGs in the future instead of just the strawberry blonde of #33.

To us, she looks like Brave's Merida.
American Girl should have released her last year if they were smart with marketing.
But have they ever been that smart with marketing?

We kind of wish her hair part was on the side and not in the center.
But we aren't about to rip off her wig and reposition it.
We'll live with it.
And this way, she can also serve as a historical girl.

Nice meet outfit with potential.
Really, really nice boots that will go with a lot of outfits.
Dress is pretty.
Shows the power of a well-fitting jersey dress.
Would have liked a leather vest with it that matches the boots.

Ring is pretty cool -- but probably can be lost pretty easily.
We thought it would latch onto two/three fingers to help it stay on, but it just goes on the one finger.

We also bought her Accessories set, so that review will be forthcoming as well.

The next two posts are about Saige's hair and then her eye color.
And then after that more Saige item reviews. :-)

Let us know if you have any questions about Saige!
We'll be happy to answer them.

Maple's KPop Sundays,
Or 'What is He Wearing?!?'

We tried one of these before with a SHINee song, which you can see here:
http://thedollwardrobe.blogspot.com/2013/01/maples-kpop-sundays-shinees-lucifer.html

Today's song is Super Junior's Mr. Simple.
This music video has over 58 million views on Youtube.

So you can get a sense that this band is very popular... and they really are.

Super Junior is a small herd of Korean male singer/dancers.
Not sure why they need like 20 people in the band.
But that means more men to look at, so I'm not gonna complain.

My Mr. Simple music video viewing was a string of "What is He Wearing?!?"
And it is still like that every time I watch it.
As you can see....

This is high-fashion.
I guess.

Don't come to my house with a rope noose around your neck as an accessory though.
I won't let you through the door.

Overall, besides the hilariousness of the outfits, the dancing, the hand gestures... it is a really catchy song. And the boys look like they had fun bouncing around inside this enormous salad spinner.

Fun Factoids for You: Choi Si Won, one of the Super Junior leads also played the male lead in one of my favorite KDramas -- "Oh! My Lady" It is the story of a famous dude who finds out that he has a young daughter, and then he gets a housekeeper/nanny to watch her secretly. It is a heartwarming, charming show that we highly recommend.

Choi Si Won has been in about a dozen TV shows, but that is the only one we have watched so far. Many of the others have been very popular.

But overall, our favorite-estestestest member of Super Junior is Lee Dong Hae, who starred in last year's Kdrama "Panda and Hedgehog" -- which we just loved loved loved.
It involves a lot of cakes.
As well as romance, cuteness, competition, scheming....
And awesomeness.

This was only his third TV show -- but we look forward to his future projects.

The take-away for our Trends to Sew fans is..... jackets.

Jackets. Jackets. Jackets.
You see them throughout this video.

Here are some unique girl jacket styles that you can create to offer as parts of outfits or just as separates.

DW Top Tip: If you want to see any of these shots larger, simply click on one and you will be brought to a larger slideshow that you can click through.

Try some military styling.

Love these colors as well.

Experiment with plaids.

Note rolled-up 3/4 length sleeves.
A way to make blazers and jackets more youthful and trendy.

Love the sort of posh-schoolgirl-look these jacket have.

Especially like the red, black and grey plaid with the warm tan color of the jumper.

Discover original cuts, shapes, and lapel draping techniques.

Like this puppy below.
Very eye-catching and flattering.

Think about your materials.

Perhaps polar fleece with modern styling.
Polar fleece isn't only for ski outfits.

Ponder unique details you can add.

Cable knit patch-pockets.
Zippers that go all around a collar.

Leather panels as accents.

Also try flared waistline designs to help give the dolls shape.

This crinkled leather jacket has a lot of neat zipper details.

Cinched waistline helps to give shape to the jacket and the girl.

Varsity jackets. Which we recommend in like every Trends to Sew.

Can't really tell you to make these any more than we've already told you to make these.

Try blazers with rolled-up 3/4 length sleeves. Add accent fabric cuffs.

Love her outfit especially with the lace-y blue tunic top over light jeans and the rose blazer.

Ear-ed hoodies are in.

If you are already turning out hoodies -- try some ears to make your items unique and fun.

And if Liberty Jane releases a Woomera Jacket pattern....

This would be a good style to try.

Love the soft, furry animal print lining in the hood.

DW TOP TIP: For seamstresses. Offer more separates. Some people like whole outfits, but others are just looking for pieces to enhance their wardrobe. Diversify your offerings by selling both whole outfits and separates.

Also, many people will balk at a $48 outfit.
But they won't hesitate to buy a well-made, unique
$18 jacket.

In our opinion, you can maximize your sales with separates.
Jackets up to $20.
Coats up to $40.
Depending on materials and time spent.

Thanks for visiting us today!

Stay tuned for a "Week of Saige" reviews and pics!
